Dog Biscuits going soft
People have recommended on several occasions that the odd dog biscuit (milky, gravy etc) are good for grinding down hamsters teeth as an occasional treat. Now what should we try when our beloved pain in the bum Sam holds the biscuit in her mouth until slightly soggy, then eats the biscuit?
She doesn't chew the cage bars, kitchen rolls, wooden climbing from or anything like that in her cage. She Chewed on a small wooden mushroom decoration for a few weeks and hasn't touched it since.
Is it healths to replace her normal food with the solid honey / carrot flavoured seed sticks that hook to the cage with a small plastic hook. WE are at a complete loss at what to give her

Re: Dog Biscuits going soft
Its fine that she lets it go soggy first, some hamsters just do that so its easier to eat. I had a syrian hamster, that liked soggy food. Not all hamsters chew, its not a huge detriment if they don't. To get a hamster to chew I actually put it in my hamsters food and get the scent all over the chew, as it makes them want to chew it! Hope I Helped x

Re: Dog Biscuits going soft
Don't replace her food with the chew. She needs are the proteins, vitamins, minerals and that from her food which the chews can't give. The are just as well as her food as a treat. Minnie has one in her cage a time and the ones u are talking about take her about a month to eat !! But others take her a week !! Maybe the dog biscuits are just a bit hard for her ? Don't worry about it though as those treat sticks do keep the teeth down but keep the normal food amount the same !!

Re: Dog Biscuits going soft
Penny wouldn't chew anything other than her food and people here told me to buy alligator chews. It worked! She loved it! She even dragged it to her nest to nibble on.

Edit: I don't actually mean put the chew IN the food, I mean get the scent on it from the food then place it in the cage! Sorry for any confusion x

Re: Dog Biscuits going soft
As long as she still chews it after it goes soft it will still help. The grittiness of the ingredients will still work even though it seems soft to use. And yes, those alligator chews are a big hit with my lot as well!
