Re: Nutritional Requirements for hamsters
Hmmmm, I really feel like it may be based on the breed. But here is a useful site, and another!

Re: Nutritional Requirements for hamsters
Great links luxbear Just to add, a staple diet should consist of 17-22% protein, 4-6% fat and 8-10% fibre.

Re: Nutritional Requirements for hamsters
Obviously, each species will need different diets. Maybe you should narrow down your chosen animal to a specific species of hamster, rather than hamsters in general.
With that in mind, and from what I gather, there isn't any scientific research that has gone specifically into the dietary needs of any species of hamster. That is to say, no research papers have been made that go into detail over what minerals and nutrients are necessary for a hamster. Usually, in a laboratory setting, they just feed hamsters lab blocks made for rodents in general.

Actually, this is not quite true. While hamsters are not as widely used in laboratory setting as say, mice or rats, there are some published nutritional scientific studies. They're usually found in thick laboratory/veterinary textbooks or scholarly databases.
Here's a fairly comprehensive overview of "Nutrient Requirement of the Hamster", Nutrient Requirement of Laboratory Animals, Fourth Revised Edition (1995).
There are others that I've found but full texts are not available unless you have access to paid database. These usually contain much more info than a typical pet owner can use, but they're nevertheless very interesting to read through if you can slog through the stiff academic writings.

Sorry, I guess I was mistaken. I guess I just never came across such texts in my research.

Re: Nutritional Requirements for hamsters
It's worth adding too that in old age Syrians require a diet slightly lower in protein and higher in fibre
