Weaning babies
Chii's babies are 18 days old now. When do I wean them? How do I go about doing it?? Do I just take them away and put them in a new house?? They're winter whites btw, thanks xx

Re: Weaning babies
Sprinkle their regular food mix generously around the nest and all over their cage, the little ones will wander around to begin to pick them up, pouch, and nibble on them. You can also chop veggies into small pieces and maybe small bits of scramble eggs and slowly introduce them to fresh food. Porridge or baby food like Polar White said are also very popular with the pups and mum.
As they begin to eat more solids on their own, mum will wean them on her own, so no need to worry.

Re: Weaning babies
Can they have herbs like dill and parsley?? I've two super spoilt house bunnies that get a lovely salad every night. Will I cook the porridge? With cows milk or water?? Also can I give them a small bit of boiled potato?

Re: Weaning babies
There are loads of things you can give the pups. They will wean themselves and are practically weaned now in fact. You should separate the boys from the others at 4 weeks of age. All they boys could go together and you can see how it works out. Just keep a close eye on them for fighting or bullying especially if they do not have dad to keep them in line. Mum can stay with her daughters and will likely keep them under control but again watch she does not get fed up with them. A group needs a fair sized cage though and multiple wheels and water bottles. Scatter feed them and don't have bowls.
Babies and mum enjoy the suggested foods of porridge ( we use readybrek actually!) babyfood, plain cooked chicken, tofu, cooked pasta or rice, boiled egg, mealworms, various veg (crumbed brocolli is popular) and other chopped veg and fruits.
