Default Willow sticks

Hi, I've recently got some willow branches for my bunnies, from a lady who had just chopped down a massive tree in her garden, and was wondering if it was safe for my robo hammie to chew on.

I was thinking of putting a massive one in her cage, if she doesn't chew it then it can be used as a climbing tool but just wanted to make sure if she did chew it it would be safe for her?

I wouldn't put willow in especially fresh in case she does chew it and it may be toxic. I would only use fruit tree branches fresh myself.

Oh would never have thought about it being toxic unless it had been treated..

I've just remembered I have some apple sticks as well so I think I'll just stick one of those in. Thank you!

I just had a look and it can cause stomach bleeding in other animals

'This tree contains phenolglycosides, salicortin and salicin. This last is an analgesic which led to the formulation of salicylic acid, aspirin.
It is often said that the bark contains aspirin but, in fact, it contains a substance which is far more likely to cause bleeding in the stomach than aspirin.'
