Default How long should dog treats last?

Recently i had to throw away some of the hamsters dog treats since they went hard and weird. Ive had most of the dog treats for a year now and was wondering how long is it safe to keep them for? I threw away the packaging so dont know the best before date. I have markies, milky bones etc. This isnt really a hamster question but want to only feed treats that are in date and are safe

If you keep the packaging and sealed once open, or even keep them in a tupperware container, the majority of treats should be fine for ages. I have a massive cupboard full of dog treats (for the dogs ) and recently found 2 huge bags of gravy bones that I bought at a show years ago. The best before date was beginning of last year but they look fine!

Depending on the water content, they should be fine for a while. The only time I follow the "best by" date is when they're soft and chewy. High water content = easier to spoil. I totally ignore the use by dates for hard biscuits like milk bones.

If it's any help, I ordered a box of Milky Bones online last week from pet supermarket I think it was...anyway, the Best Before date on them is September next year
