Mix Recommendation
Can anyone recommend a mix for an elderly syrian hamster, as I can't get his old mix.
Also for hybrids can anyone please recommend a good low sugar mix please, I was previously feeding the mixes from RR.
Thanks.

Re: Mix Recommendation
What was his old mix hun?
I'm not sure if it works for an elderly hamster but my Syrian is on Harry Hamster, Supreme Science Selective Hamster and Versele Laga Crispy Muesli all mixed together. Harry Hamster and Supreme Selective are both fine on their own as are a lot of other mixes so it's a case of finding a good one that works for you and your hammie or doing what I've done and mixing a few together

Re: Mix Recommendation
He was having the RR mix with a couple of the SS biscuits. I don't think he'd eat all SS though, he likes variety.
He's pretty inactive these days and recovered from a mild stroke.

Re: Mix Recommendation
JR farm Syrian or Dwarf mix is nicely varied mix and has a lower protein content which IMHO is ideal for elderly hamsters as they simply do not need it, it can be harsh on their kidneys.

If feeding selectively on a mix give him a lot of what he probably fancies: "Mucki Menu Plus" is packed with seeds, grains and veggies (Zooplus). I just ordered one to try as a supplement for extruded pellets (Pets At Home Nuggets)

Re: Mix Recommendation
Our diabetes prone hams are on science selective, it is pellet based but they seem to enjoy it and its still got really good ingredients for diabetes-prone hamsters
Our syrians currently get harry hamster, jr farm hamster and jr farm dwarf and seem to really enjoy it.
