Default Rice

Can hamsters eat rice? As in cooked egg rice that you put in the microwave?

Yes we feed cooked rice sometimes. Only give as much as they will eat in a sitting though as stored cooked rice can breed some nasty bacteria. Remove the dish once they have eaten their fill

I gave mine some cooked rice recently and they both loved it Though they only had a tiny pinch each, they were being given the bits that are always stuck to the bottom of the saucepan when I cook rice

Mine enjoy a bit of rice and plain pasta too. Squeak still loves her mealworms whilst Peanut still hates them. Petree is really in to millet at the moment but Bubbles and Lucky have gone off the stuff.

I often cook a small amount of brown rice as a treat but as souffle said, only feed it the same day and keep it soaking in cold water until fed. I never keep it until the following day because of the bacterial issues cooked rice can have and with such a small robo, I don`t want to risk it. Kallo organic wholegrain puffed rice is a good alternative sold in Tesco and healthfood shops.

All the poms love a little brown rice, they normally get it on Friday nights as I make chill and rice then so they get some of mine. Again it only stays in over night, anything left which is a rarity will be is removed the next morning
