I agree with others, switch to Science Selective Hamster. This stops them picking at the food

I actually remove the green and brown biscuits from my Burgess Supahamster Harvest mix as no hamster I`ve owned has eaten them. They have colourants and raising agents added aswell which I`m not in favour of, so I just chuck them and replace them with another grain like puffed rice or millets.

I recommend Pets At Home Hamster Nuggets which is a complete pellet type food with quite a staggering array of nutrients. I feed around 2/3 complete and around 1/3 mix and occasionally just the mix to provide variety.

I think you'll find that it's not that they don't eat the crunchy biscuit ingredients but that they are feeding selectively on what they like best first and saving the rest for later such as bedtime snacks. The big problem with selective feeding is that they might not get all the nutrients they need. Hence a complete food. You could be heartless and ruthless as I am and just not feed when they have food in their store.

When feeding a mix to my hamsters they take in the following order always: Dried mealworms, seeds, grains, nuts and then the rest.

Don't forget that like babies they need to have their food changed gradually, So mixed new food with the old food to change gradually over a couple of weeks.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but some dwarf hamsters don't eat the bigger pieces of food unless they're broken up. My boy Reid used to eat only the seeds and small nuts out of his HH until I started breaking the pellets into smaller pieces.

Just for anyone interested... Our hams made it clear they'd prefer to starve rather than eat the P@H pellets. Science selective seems to go down much better with the hamsters and has healthier ingredients too.
Obviously everyone should feed what they like, but thought some may find it useful to know when animals have bluntly refused to touch one type of food.
