Alternate food?
Hi I'm in a bit of a pickle :S I normally but the Silver mixture from ratrations but there seems to be an issue with it atm, my hammys food is starting to run low and I don't know what to do. Should I order the mix over the phone like the option on the website or not risk it and buy an alternate food, if so which food should I get?
Thanks
Hazel

Re: Alternate food?
Harry/Hazel hamster is a good mix for a syrian, or burgess supahamster for a dwarf. The Rat rations mix - there was an issue with the amount of protein I believe, so some people don't feed it to their hams anymore. Anyway, harry/hazel hamster is good, maybe mixed with some science selective hamster and the burgess dwarf food too.

Re: Alternate food?
There are potentially issues with the RR mix which is why it has been taken down for now, if you are happy to supplement the RR mix can still be used and as you say you can order online, it was once spoke about as if it were a complete mix but it how now come to light that it most likely isnt complete. For some hamsters the %s are potentially a bit off too.
There are plenty of options for foods still, is your dwarf a hybrid?

Re: Alternate food?
I don' mind trying another mix, I'll look up the burgess since my hammys a dwarf, geez finding the right mix can be very troublesome :S
My hammy Zelo, is supposedly a WW but has a strange colouring so I normally just stick to considering him a hybrid XD

Re: Alternate food?
I find that the Burgess Dwarf is ideal for diabetic prone dwarfs because the peas are easy to take out and there are no big biscuits that would be difficult for a little guy to chew

Re: Alternate food?
Ohhhh, just looked it up (recognised the packaging) XD I was using Burgess before RR's mix, only reason I changed is because they stopped selling it in P@H guess I can order is from other places. That and Zelo was kinda fussy with that food :S

Re: Alternate food?
I mix together Pets at Home Premium, Burgess and Harry Hamster for maximum variety, with a bit of Trill bird seed and dried herb mix. The theory is that if they reject certain elements in one mix they may get that nutritional component from an ingredient in one of the others instead. I supplement with loads of fresh food - gradually increasing the amounts until it comprises about 50% of the diet. This has worked well for me and my hams are very active and lively.

Re: Alternate food?
We mix together a few mixes for most of our hams now. The robos get harry hamster, burgess dwarf, jr farm hamster and jr farm dwarf. The syrians get that without the burgess dwarf and the diabetes prone dwarf hams get science selective and enjoy it more than we thought they would
