Re: Baby food - Which ones?
Agreeing with everyone before mine love porridge!! I bought an apple one and they snubbed it.. Cinnamon likes it so much the spoon is always licked clean :0) x I think in ASDA they are having an offer to buy the cow and gate ones..
Happy baby food

Re: Baby food - Which ones?
How much do you give to a hamster?
only gave mine about half a teaspoon, was unsure how much i'm able to give to them, as i know the open jar won't last long and would have to thrown (or eat myself) most of it.

Re: Baby food - Which ones?
Scampi16 has a point here. How much at a time? How long can the food be refridgerated? Can we make a list of baby foods and in what amounts would be okay for a sick or elderly hammy? Some of the choices offered can't be found in the USA and vice versa. This would be really good to know. I know oatmeal can be given. Is it better as dry flakes or soaked in water or cooked? Could baby oatmeal be used?
What about baby food rice cereal? Especially if a hammy is recovering from wet tail?
As I understand it, baby food chicken can be used...any other meats?
Baby food peas, carrots, applesauce, are okay...which others?
What kind of baby food meals?
Also, how about taking broccoli, cauliflower, beans and putting them in a blender and pureeing them for hammy?
One last note. I've noted people saying porridge...is that the same as oatmeal here in the US?
How about putting spoonfuls of babyfood in an icecube tray and then freezing it so you have hammy sized portions? (I'd cover the tray well with plastic wrap.)

Hi,
I do believe that porridge is the same as oatmeal in USA. I give mine both porridge oats dry and made up with milk as porridge.
on the jar of baby food (creamed rice pudding) I opened it said that it has to be used within 24 hours of opening (kept refrigerated after opening), i'm pretty sure that my Syrian and dwarf's can't have a whole jar between them within 24 hours?

Re: Baby food - Which ones?
Okay, lots of questions!
As for the meat thing - chicken is fine. I don't really know for sure about other meats, but any type of pork is a no.
For freshness, I spooned mine into an ice cube tray and froze it. That way, I just used one 'food cube' per hamster and just banged it out of the mold. I found that amount would go over about a day (or night).
For a sick and poorly hamster, I don't know on quantities. But I would imagine as much as they can eat. This might vary from hamster to hamster. When Poppy was severely underweight, I was giving her 2 cubes a day, which helped her gain.
Oatmeal and porridge is the same thing.
