Syrian treats
Just wondering, is it ok to give my Syrians live meal worms?
They love the dried ones so is there any harm in giving them live ones?
Also, I read somewhere that hamsters love Bakers Allsorts (the dog treats), is this safe to give to them?

Re: Syrian treats
If you are going to give your hammies live mealworms you need to crush the mealworms head before you give it to the hammy. They can bite the hammy. Hammies do like dog treats. I give my hammy little milk bone treats. Patches only gets one a week.

Re: Syrian treats
I might stick to the dried ones for now then, im not the best when it comes to creepy crawleys! and maybe slowly introduce them to some dog treats in little bits.

Re: Syrian treats
I don’t know about those particular dog treats. I’m sure someone will respond.
In regards to live meal worms, that is a definite yes. If you read around the forum you will read that it is something they almost all seem to love. I personally do the dried ones because of the ‘yuck’ factor. One day maybe I’ll be ready to make to make that jump. You are a brave soul!

Re: Syrian treats
They're pretty good, they like virtually anything, tigs a bit naughty because he likes mummy's food, he took it upon himself to start licking mummy's wham chew bar once! Luckily he only got one lick in! They're like little mini vacuum cleaners! Tig isn't keen on the dried meal worms, he scrunched his nose up and ran away but lu loves them!

Re: Syrian treats
Both Darwin and Smudge LOVE live mealworms . They don't really bother me, but I do use tweezers to get them out of the container and I use the end of the tweezers to crush the heads. You could avoid touching them that way & it kind of reduces the yuck factor!

Re: Syrian treats
I think lu would love them, it the crushing head part that worries me, knowing me I won't do it right and she'll get bitten

If you use the end of the tweezers, you can actually just basically cut the head off, so no worries about them being bitten.
