Best hamster food for syrians and best treats
Im thinking about getting a syrian hamster and im trying to figure out the startup cost and what's healthy and what's not. I'm thinking of going with the oxbow, mazuri, or hazel. I have seen the pros and cons of each yet I still can't decide. Also can anyone mention if I would have to mix anything with say the oxbow cause I know it's a lab block and I would most likely need seeds. Also what a hamster is more prone to eat ( I know some hamsters don't like oxbow). Lastly what treats to feed hamsters like are there any good store brought treats or do they prefer veggies and fruits. Thanks by the way I live in America.

I assume you are in the US, so yes, many here use Hazel Hamster since it already has the mix of seeds and pellets.

Re: Best hamster food for syrians and best treats
I vote Hazel Hamster. I've tried Oxbrow and Mazuri and my hamsters aren't crazy for those at all. I dumped my Oxbrow out in the yard to feed the birds or squirrels who who ever will eat them out there because my hamsters certainly won't (or my gerbils!) And my Syrian will sometimes eat a Mazuri lab block sometimes. I kind of like having a small bag of that just to mix in his Hazel Hamster mix to give him options. But he definitely enjoys his hazel hamster.

Re: Best hamster food for syrians and best treats
We tend to skip most pet shop treats and feed our hams "human" stuff as a treat. Stuff like lentils, porridge oats, safflower, split peas, dried coconut flakes/curls, dari, pearl barley, sunflower seeds, bran sticks, the odd bit of fruit... Oh and dog biscuits, bird seed, millet (often sold on sticks for birds), mealworms, cat/dog kibble... All go down well

Re: Best hamster food for syrians and best treats
Corn is fine for syrians, hazel hamster is perfect as it is for a syrian
People only take the corn out when they have a diabetes prone species, and syrians aren't diabetes prone.
