Default Treats

Hello guys.

Ive had my hamster for about 3 weeks now. And he has gotten very tame.
Comes to my hand, goes on it and it in general comfortable with it.
My question is, to get him tame I have given him alot of treats obviously.
How much is too much? How many treats do you give your hamster a day?
I am talking sunflower seeds, and so on.
I notice he doesnt eat it, he just puts it in his "hiding" and saves it for later or whatever.

But I just wanna make sure I dont overfeed him. And I want to know what is the best way to give your hamster treats. (He loves broccoli and sun flower seeds. Everything else he is like "meh, is that all youve got" haha )

Ours generally get treats every day or two. Usually put into the cage rather than hand-fed.

Depends on how often you feed them. I'd only feed two or three a day. Ours often get more but only because we don't feed treats daily and know they won't eat them all at once.

I would go with the two/three sunflower seeds a day as Kyrill suggested as they can be high in fat, but are beneficial to the diet. If you have a dwarf russian hamster, low fat, high fibre is best, so treat-wise, you could look at having a small amount of loose millet on stand by and just offer four grains at a time, or a little piece of cooked wholegrain rice. This should be cooked FRESH and not kept stored after a day as rice can built bacteria. I take around half a teaspoonful, cook it for half an hour, let it cool and take one grain at a time and offer it as a tasty, healthy treat! I have a robo and a syrian and they love it.

Puffed rice is also available in Tesco for £2.00 a bag. It`s called Kallo organic wholegrain puffed rice. It is gluten free and dwarfies love it. So a few pieces of this would also go down well.

mine all love some cooked pasta once/twice a week.

i put the pasta in a mug pour boiling water (no salt) let it soften.

of all the treats it's the one they scoff down the quickest xxxx

A cooked pasta spiral could be snipped down with scissors into smaller pieces as a treat and kept in water until the next day, but cooking fresh is always best. I`ve just started to feed one pasta spiral to my older syrian this week and he loves it. I wouldn`t overdo pasta though as it is a carbohydrate so could end up with a rather plump pasta loving hamster!
