Default Treats/extras for young Syrian

Hi all,

I'm wondering what healthy extras can be given to baby or young syrians on top of a good mix. I image young hamsters like other young may have slightly different requirments than an adult. I want to get it right to help insure a healthy baby

Actually, almonds are okay to give to hamsters of any kind. To further inform the masses, I wrote this on another thread:

Quote:
The bitter almond, a certain type of almond, yields hydrogen cyanide. Oddly, it was once used, in very small amounts, as a cure all. Unfortunately even small doses of this compound result in severe problems so it was stopped.

The kind of almond you see at the store is the more commonly found sweet almond. In fact, all commercially grown almonds are sweet almonds. They don't contain hydrogen cyanide in them and are completely safe to consume by people and hamsters alike.
