That cage IS too small for your dwarf. The ad on Amazon is a joke. I'd suggest a bin cage or a hamster heaven because he's going to grow and hams like lots of floor space to run around on.

That cage is too small. I've seen it in Petco and such, and it's really small. Plus, it has really flimsy plastic, and can break easily. In my opinion, your best bet would still be a bin cage.

Try to get a hamster specific mix that has 19% protein, 8% fibre and 6% fat or as near as you can. Hamster/gerbil combo mixes are rubbish, to be perfectly honest, as hams and gerbils have different requirements and they don't meet the requirements of either species. Hazel Hamster and Burgess are two brands that the US has that are good. (Unfortunately, I think all commercial mixes have corn that needs to be picked out for diabetes prone dwarfs.)

And yes, that cage is too small. Something of 55 by 40 cm (21.5 by 16 inches) is the absolute minimum I would recommend for a single dwarf, and the cage you have is about half that. Plus larger is nearly always better.

Don't worry this is just for now, I am going to expand his cage later on but for now he has this starter cage.
