millet is in some hamster food normally, i give mine a whole sprig now and then, esp the dwarfs they love it, also for anyone who needs weight put on, i find they might ignore it for a week, then you just find a stick lol!
i think it can be given pernamently as long as they eat normall food too
that reminds me bonno needs one!
you can get millet bells and hanging sticks, just like the hamster ones, but only millet, i know wilko use 'edable glue' as the only other thing inside them, so even dwarfs who are prone can have them you can get a big bag of sprays from most pet shops for a few pounds

I don't know about feed stores (had never heard of them) but our smaller pet shop is useless for everything other than millet so it might be that they stock those and little else useful.

It's sold in bird isles in every pet shop I've been in (also on-line for very cheap). I just got a pound of good quality millet from Drs Foster and Smith (on line) for $4.50. It's actually a LOT and will last a long time with my many hams, as it can be easily stored in the freezer in ziplock bags.

People are always telling me that their hamsters are fat.. I just wanted to say something. Millet is really high in fat, so I wouldn't give it to a hamster everyday, I read that someone was doing it here and I thought I would say something . I had birds in the past, and worked with a breeder for over a year and we always watched the millet, because it was so fattening

I don't think it's "very high" in fat. It's higher in fat than wheat, but much lower in fat than nuts and sunflower/pumpkin seeds.

Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Millet, raw
4.2 grams of fat per 100 grams (half a cup) of raw millet

Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Seeds, sunflower seed kernels, dried
24 grams of fat per half a cup of dried (deshelled) sunflower seeds (46g), 52 grams of fat per 100g.

I think I will try the feed store, and if they don't have it maybe they can direct me in an area that does. In the bird aisles at pet stores, is it the millet in packs or loose? I've seen the kind in a packet, but they are always 2 different colored. A light and a dark bag
