Switching to burgess

Hey everyone =)

So recently my robos havent been eating much harry hamster food so i have decided to give burgess a go Im going to get some next week, hopefully it will be eaten. Or should i just keep them on harry hamster ?

Im biast so probably not the right person answering this one, though I won't get anything money wise from the sale from my Mix's.

I have made three Dwarf Hamster Mix's which will go on sale sometime next week. They have seeds/grains/nuts/mealworms & fish in them. I have worked out all the fat/protein & fibre to be correct for the hammy's.

You could try mixing the two for variety. HH is a reliably good food, but I've also heard good things about the non-dwarf version of Burgess (which is fine for robos anyway).

I would definately give the Burgess a go coolnat. Not the dwarf version though as it`s naff compared to the original mix. The dwarf version is bland and full of alfalfa and small extruded biscuits and not much else. The normal one has lots of grains. If you don`t want your robos eating the banana chips, just pick those out.

I`ve mentioned in many posts that I pick out three things from this mix, the yellow corn, the flaked maize and tha banana pieces because of their higher natural sugar/glucose content because I have a chinese hamster, but my syrian benefits from these as he gets what Prinny can`t! So it`s not wasted.

I`m not sure if robos are as diabetic prone as chinese or hybrid Russians though, so it may be that robos can have the corn and very small pieces of the banana as a treat if that`s not the case.

The Burgess Supahamster Harvest (normal) is one of the best hamster variety mixes on the market I feel, which is why I chose it over most. But I still add other ingredients to it to add even more variety.

...okay, maybe naff isn`t the right term to use! I just took one look at it and though EEK....it`s all....naff!!! I don`t think I`ve had a hamster, mouse or gerbil who ever ate those pellets, yet the manufacturers add them in mass/bulk, rather than looking at better grains that have similar fibre content. I guess it`s up to us to observe these things which is why I switched almost right away to the other Burgess mix and add other ingredients. The small alfalfa pellets are still in the Burgess normal Harvest mix, but not in such quantities. Prinny still won`t touch them! I offer them because they are in the mix, but she won`t eat them.

On my travel's finding out about different foods for dwarfs I was told that the reason why the grass pellets are not eaten is because the fibre is too solid. So it goes round & round in there tummy's & they have trouble digesting it. Rarely a hammy will eat it but that's not the norm xxx

It`s much the same with mice too Silver. My mice never touched the glass/alfalfa pellets. Some say they don`t digest it well either. Makes me wonder why the makers of these foods keep adding it to their mixes instead of alternatives? They just seem to bulk the mixes up with it and we`re paying for the weight of it when it could be replaced with something the hamster will eat!

Im going to give the burgess a try i think Im going to P@H to get it tomorrow hopefully they will like it
