Maize
Hi,
I've just invested some Supahamster food which contains Maize and I've seen advice with having Dwarf Hamsters to remove the Maize from it. I was just wondering if what I've removed is actually Maize.

This is what I've taken so long to remove.
Thank you in advance.
Jamie

Re: Maize
Hello Jamie,
Yes that's corn which is also called maize. What type of dwarf hamster have you got & where did you buy the hamsters?.
Some people remove the maize because it is quiet high in natural sugar & some dwarf hamster species are prone to diabetes that's why some people take it out.

Re: Maize
I have one Russian Dwarf and an albino Campbells Russian. I got them from Pets at Home around 3-4 months ago.
I was told that the Campbells Russian was quite prone to Diabetes and that's why I was a bit bothered about putting it in. I tried telling apart the whole Maize and flaked Maize in the Wagg food but to no avail. Plus the Supahamster food is supposed to be better quality ingredients, or so I've heard.
Thanks,
Jamie

Re: Maize
Both will be prone to diabetes, being Russian and from Pets At Home. But, yes, you've removed the maize.

I saw that thread and would definately be interested in it, going to have to slowly introduce this new Supahamster food now, but when it goes online I'll definately check it out
And thank you for clarifying Snickers, I knew I shouldn't trust Pets at Home

Re: Maize
Sadly, pretty much all of their Russians are hybrids. Many will live happy lives without the problems though.

Re: Maize
Yeah they seem to be in good health at the moment. I've had them 4 months now and I'm assuming they were 2-3 months old when I picked them up so they'll only be 6-7 months old max I would assume. Hopefully they will live long and prosperous lives.
