Re: Broccoli
My two love it. Shiloh had her first taste today and was very impressed. Worked herself into such a frenzy over it she needed a lie down

Re: Broccoli
The shop next to me sells broccoli and I'm really tempted to buy some for my two. But (embarrassment) I've never cooked it for myself before. Are you supposed to cook it before giving it to your hammies?

Re: Broccoli
You don't need to cook it. Hams I'd imagine would prefer it uncooked. It retains more nutrients when raw.
Humans tend to prefer it steamed (15mins in a steamer/in a sieve over a pot of boiling water with lid on or in microwave for 5/10minutes with a tspn water and a piece of wet kitchen paper on top). Broccoli is tasty - you should start eating it.

Re: Broccoli
Silly question - is it raw broccoli we can give hamsters, or cooked?

Re: Broccoli
Raw, cooked wouldn't hurt if it had no added salt etc. My rats will only eat broccoli cooked lol I tend to just take a piece out if we are having it with dinner. I boil it in a pan of water till tender.

Re: Broccoli
We had roast chicken tonight, so Toffee will be getting a little piece of chicken and some steamed broccoli (cooked without salt).

Re: Broccoli
Gave my two some broccoli. Neither fancied it! Sylvia doesn't seem to take a fancy to anything. Other hammy loves sunflowers seeds!

Re: Broccoli
all my hammies get raw food (cept the meat) my problem is I've eaten most of it by the time i get round to giving to them.
Broccoli is a hit as is carrot, cauliflower, mushroom, cucumber. also like melon, strawberries, apples, grapes, cherry, egg, cheese ( low fat) and discovered she likes my sweet peas.

Re: Broccoli
Peas are a hit in our house, the hams love them, I usually set some aside when I make casseroles to give to them. They also love while turkey/chicken meat! When we roast one we usually get a fresh cut, let it cool and dangle it over the hams nest (while it still smells all savory and yummy). It's hilarious watching their little noses poke out, eyes shut, while they chomp it
