Default Yogurt Drops

Today my parents went to Petco and I told them to get yogurt drops for my syrian hamster Carmelo.

When they got home, they gave me the Vitakraft yogurt drops. (Which is the ones I wanted.) Problem? yes because they are for guinea pigs. here is a pic:

the ones I got:

I ones I need/have a little bit left:

So my question is, can I feed my hamster the yogurt drops that are meant for hamsters? Are they the same thing? They are the same brand but each are meant for different rodents.

Examine the contents list on the back of the pack and compare them. Personally I would not risk it as the problem is that guinea pigs do not pouch food but hamies do. Hamster treats are made to a special consistancy that will not melt in the pouches and bung them up. Even if the contents do look similar the melting point may make them unsafe for hammies. Maybe you could keep them and exchange them next visit. I doubt they would make them in separate packs if they were suitable for all small rodents.

I hope you havent gave any drops to Carmelo, hammiesarelovex3.

Guinea Pig Yogurt Drops are well..for guinea pigs, Your parents should have looked at the label before buying them. When I asked my parents to get me some Vitakraft Strawberry, I maked sure I told them to get the ones especially for hamsters!

Take them back to Petco and either get a refund or get the right ones, I am sure they will do a swap (Unless you have opened them).

Remember: Feed 1-3 Drops daily and make sure your hamster has adequate fresh water available.

Hammis prefers Strawberry and the Milk and honey ones to the yogurt ones.

Don't worry, I haven't given Carmelo any of them I forgot to tell them to make sure they are for hamsters only, (sometimes I don't think LOL) So my mom is gonna return them tomorrow and I'm gonna give her a pic of which one she needs to get...but thanks for your concern!

i just wanted to say i dont trust any food that comes from just a cardboard box anymore. i get the strawverry flavored drops that come in a pouch you have to cut open. when i had my gerbil, i bought a box of those veggie ravioli things. once i opened them, i kept them in a sealed plastic ziploc bag and then about 2 weeks later, i noticed little black bugs crawling around them. im thinking they got in through the cardboard.

Those little bug/weevil things can infect any food. They can find their way through the tiniest of gaps or may be transferred on your hands when you are feeding. When we open a food pack we immediatly transfer it to a tupperware or glass jar with a sealed lid. Only open enough food that you will use quickly.
