Default Do hamsters and guinea pigs have the same nutritional needs?

Just a question, do guinea pigs and hamsters have the same nutritional needs?

I read of that in Martin Braaks dutch website, and was wondering how true is that. If it is indeed true, that is would save me some money, as hamster food in where i live is quite expensive compared to guinea pig food.

I am asking that, because Rats, mice and hamsters all have simillar nutritional needs. Wondering if guinea pigs are the same.

Hello, no they don't.

Guinea pigs can't store vit c so their food always has more vit c in it compared to hammy food.

ditto, they absolutely don't.
Even rats, mice and hamsters have slight differences, i'd never reccommend to feed them all the same food.
Its best to stick to branded hamster food if you can, making your own mix from scratch is very hard to get right and its possible they could miss out on a lot of things they need.

If Martin Braak says it, it might have some basis of truth, but it turns out after research, they have need different needs, unlike rats and mice with hamsters.

Currently feeding mazuri rodent pellets to my rats and hamsters, going to go on with rats hamster mouse 3000 from prolab which is said to be better.

My view is that they most definitely don't have the same nutritional needs. Guinea pigs need a high fibre dried food, which should make up a very small proportion of their diet, with hay making up the vast majority, plus the vitamin C requirement mentioned above.
