Default How many whites are acceptable for this setup?

I currently have a Russian white that I've had for over two years. He still seems pretty healthy and active... but I know he won't last that much longer. I've also learned they like friends and did not know that when I got him. I definitely don't want to breed so was curious how many I could fit in this setup of the same set. Thanks!

You absolutely don't want the get another hamster at this stage in his life. He would more than likely kill it or be killed by it. That set up is not one I would use for a group of hamsters as there are too many small areas where territorial fights could break up. One only in there. Dwarf hamsters only as well as it isn't big enough for syrians. Many people don't like this type of set up however if your hamster is content there then that is just fine.

Hi Nik84.

Whoever told you that they like friends was completely incorrect! Dwarf hamsters like yours are very very much solitary animals and should only ever be kept in a pair if they are of the same sex and were born together and never parted from each other even for a vet visit.

The rule however is "keep them on their own!".

As Souffle said, while they look adorable and act very sweetly towards their humans, they very likely will kill or severely injure each other if they are housed together.
