Is this a winter white dwarf or a Syrian?
https://photos.app.goo.gl/2KmwNeGyTxpiNnS16
Hello! We decided to get a hamster and instead of buying from a pet store we decided to find an unwanted pet from the local Buy and Sell pages. I went to pick up the hamster and was told she was a Siberian hamster, which when I googled it meant she was a winter white dwarf. However she is quite large and looks nothing like the google images of a winter white dwarf. Have I actually rescued a Syrian? She has banded colours, white and beige, and is about 6” long. She came in a critter trial cage that looked super tiny for her and she could barely squeeze herself into the tubes going to her nest.
I have since moved her to a Prevue 568 cage which is huge in comparison to her original cage but the wheel and hide house I bought now look too small.
Do you guys know what kind of hammy she is?
I can’t figure out how to post pictures...

Re: Is this a winter white dwarf or a Syrian?
You don't get banded winter whites so definitely not that. You do however get patterned Campbells who can have banded patterns. 4 inches is quite a small syrian but could be a younger one.
To post pics you need to use the go advanced section at the bottom of the reply box then manage attachments and upload your image.
You certainly get banded syrians in all colours so some pics would help.

I just edited my post as I actually measured her and she is 6” long (before I just guessed).

That is a beautiful Golden banded Syrian hamster you have there. 6inches is more like a Syrian size and too large for a dwarf. What is her name?

Yes she is very cute and friendly. We have named her Penny. I’m going to have to upgrade her hide house and wheel ASAP....
