Exclamation Can't find her!

Hi everyone! I really need some advice here. I have a 1-month-old winter white and her name is Munchkin. Well all munchkin does is burrow. I know that hamsters are natural burrowers and they will hide under the bedding, but Munchkin is constantly under her bedding and I can never find her. Is it safe for her to sleep under the substrate? Can she breathe under there? Should I be worried?

She'll be fine. How long have you had her? Taming could be tricky if she hides away. I know it's a bit worrying as our Robo did that and I didn't know where he was but if you put a tiny bit of veg out each night as well as her food, and it's gone in the morning, you know she's ok! Or at least if it looks nibbled.

Have you got lots of hidey places in the cage and/or a shelf? If they feel a bit exposed they can hide under the substrate more, but if they are things to hide under in the cage you might see a bit more of her.

Thank you so much Serpendipity7000!I have had munchkin for 2 days now. I do believe she is pretty tamed already; She wil take treats from my hand and gladly let me hold her so that is not a problem.

I have a homemade house, tent, and a mug for her to hide in. is this a good amount of hideouts for a 624sq inch bin cage?

Thanks again for the info!

Two days is not very long They usually need 2 or 3 days left alone to settle in. She's probably just a bit scared by the change of environment and is busy exploring and scent marking everything as well, and hiding a bit maybe. I'm sure she'll soon gain more confidence and be out and about more.

She sounds fine to me, if she's already coming to your hand then I doubt she's scared, some do tame really quickly & sounds as though she is, it just sounds as though she's enjoying digging & burrowing in her substrate.
If you can't find her then you can often tempt them out by just gently rustling the substrate while you call them. Unless you really have to it's best not to go hunting for them too much but wait for them to come out when they wake.
