I was going to change her nesting material yesterday but I was hissed at me so I promptly got out of the cage very quickly
I never knew hamsters could hiss
I know that hissing is not a good noise but it was good that she did this at me because it means she is now getting territorial which is a really good thing
She obviously didn’t want her nest disturbed because chances are she probably just sorted it out to her she wanted it to be so she could sleep inside it
She is doing something that is something I’ve never come across before she started doing this yesterday squeaking from inside the nest space
She has done it again today squeaking from inside the nest space and I don’t really know what it means I have not been inside the cage at any point when she has been doing this
Is it because she has been here since Thursday she now feels settled so she just wants to vocalise?

Hissing along with screeching is a sign of fear, invading her nest if she was in it would be very scary for her!
Id she's not peeing in her nest then leave well alone, for the first few weeks you only need to spot clean pee, nests & hoards should be untouched as much as possible, after a few weeks you can do a bit of a clean in the nest if it needs it but always put some of the old nest back.
If you do need to clean pee from the nest it's best to take her out, put her in a carrier with lots of substrate so she's safe & comfortable while you clean.
Do you have a sand bath for her? They really need to have one, use chinchilla sand (not dust) & they will often pee in the sand which makes cleaning even easier.
Most of my hybrids & some of my Chinese have been quite noisy sleepers! As long as she is fine otherwise don't worry about squeaks in her sleep.

Can winter white hamsters squeak in your sleep?

Yes!
Your ham is probably a hybrid just in case you didn't know, did she come from a pet shop? Unless she came from a breeder she won't be a pure WW but a WW Campbells Russian cross, unlike pure WW they can be prone to diabetes so take care with her diet, no sweet treats, honey, fruit or mixes with sugars & dried fruit in them.

She did come from a pet shop but it was an independent one who gets all their rodents from people that do nothing but specialise in that particular animal so chances are it is winter white I have
I’m going to give Liberta her first handling session this evening when she gets up which should be around 6 o’clock this evening
I’m going to start handling her inside the bath because she is very quick and it’s just in case she jumps at least she’ll have less chance of falling on the floor
I would never forgive myself if something happened to her she is absolutely loving her Santa bath I did go and get some chinchilla sand for her because she was a little bit itchy I noticed she was scratching so I went to pets at home I don’t know if this forum is UK-based or not it’s a shop in the UK it’s the sister company of PetSmart in America so I got some chinchilla sand from there and since she’s had the Sand bath she has now stopped itching
I love feeling the sand because I can feel where her little body has made indentations in it and it feels like there’s been a little wave going over the surface of the sand but it’s not it’s been her little body rolling about in several different places by the field of things so yeah I think she’s had a whale of a time with that
❤️❤️❤️
