Snapdragon update

Snappy stayed at the vet hospital for 3 nights. We really missed him. They don't know what is wrong with him or even if there is anything wrong with him. He was hoarding all his food there too, but they had observed him drinking a lot over night, which could indicate a kidney problem. Though I do wonder if he was maybe drinking a lot to suppress his hunger. They were going to do ultrasound and blood tests but he is so tiny now that they felt it was far too risky and if it is kidney problems then nothing can be done anyway. They did get a urine sample and we should get the results on Wednesday, they are testing for Cushings but they will have a good look at it and see if anything shows up.

Fingers crossed for the results BP, really hope they don't show up anything too serious & that something may help solve the mystery of Snappy's hoarding habit soon.

Snappy seems to be doing quite well. He's lively and energetic but still hoarding all his normal hamster food. He is eating soaked science selective biscuits though and his veg so it would seem that he thinks dry food = stash and wet/fresh food = tummy. He's put on some weight though and has been around the 44/45g for the last 10 days.

We got the results back from the cortisol test yesterday. Normal range would be less than 20 and Snappy's was at 58.4, so this did suggest he could have cushings. The vet we have been liasing with is the same vet we saw with Pasha but it was a different vet that seen Snappy and it would seem that he didn't mention to her that there was no fur loss or any other sympton typical of cushings! So we've went back to her with the full story and we'll see what she thinks

I am just catching up on the latest two updates on Snappy. Somehow, I seem to have missed them. I am so sorry that Snappy had to stay at the vet hospital for three nights, lost a lot of weight, and had a concerning test result. Eros, Snickers, and I have been keeping him in our thoughts and wishing him well. I hope that the vet is able to help your little one recover from whatever is ailing him. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed that whatever is wrong isn't too serious and he will be able to still live a long and active life with you. At least he has been now enjoying his wet foods; it is good that he is able to be spoiled with his extra moist foods. Please give Snappy an extra cuddle from all of us. His two videos were so precious and managed to put a smile on my face. I love his tug of war with the food and his expression when he came out of the treat parcel. Hugs to you and your hamboys.

Thank you dreamtree and cypher. He is a very special little guy and I can't believe that him and Sparky are already 6 months old. They are both so active and entertaining

The vet had asked us to monitor how much water he was drinking in a 24 hour period so we did that from yesterday morning until this morning. He drank around 3ml (Hard to tell as the measuring cup we were using was only in 5ml increments!). I don't know if that would be a lot or not?

That sounds about right, anything around 5ml is normal.
I can't believe he & Sparky are six months already either!
