Re-housing baby hamsters with their father?
I was wondering if anyone could possibly offer me some advice either from a profession view or just from experience.. My winter white has recently had 5 little babies who are now nearly 2 weeks old.
I was just wondering if anyone can offer me any advice on homing the males with the father? I've read about it being an option online but I also know about how you should be careful when introducing new hamsters. Does this apply in this case? Or will the father know that they are his children?
Thanks

Was he with the mother when they were born at all? Males will usually take in sons without much trouble especially if he has part raised them. If he was in with her then she is likely pregnant again.

Re: Re-housing baby hamsters with their father?
Is there a problem with the Mother? I just wondered why you wanted them in with the Father. I think normally the pups stay with the Mother until about 3 to 4 weeks (Souffle will know exact times), when you separate the girls from the boys. I think generally they do better separated from the Mother, with girls in one cage, boys in another, Mum in another cage, when the pups are old enough. The Father needs to be removed as soon as the babies are born or, as Souffle says, the Mother will get pregnant again.
If you did put any pups in with the Father it could only be boys or he could mate with the girls. I don't think I would risk it personally, if the Father is already separate. A bit more info would help people advise
