What other treats have you tried?
Flax, hemp, sunflower & pumpkin seeds all go down well, only in moderation though!
If he's enjoying his mix you could just hand feed some of that too.
Nuts are fine, I tend to give just tiny pieces more often rather than large pieces left in the cage except monkey nuts, I generally leave one of those in the cage for nibbling on along with a piece of biscrok dog biscuit.
Does he have any antos chews/whimzees? I'm sure he'd love those.

Smile Re: Larry-Jasper's thread

Hi

So I haven't updated here in a couple days (been very busy with a Science test).

Larry-Jasper has finally discovered he likes yoghurt drops (hurray)!! I also made him some hamster friendly "lasagne" but he was not impressed , the little fusspot. Let me know if you want me to create a thread about the recipe. We've been having lots of play time in his tiny carrier which I use as a taming and digging box. He's decided that he wants two nests - one that leads directly below his beach house and the other is next to his wheel. You can see straight into the burrows and often see a curled up sleeping hamster.

Jasper has been very good and realised that I'm not a treat and he hasn't woken me up at all! Tomorrow evening, I think he's going back to my dad's house with me and into his big cage so I'm really excited about that.

I have a question about his food though. Basically, at the moment I'm feeding a mix of his new diet and what he had at the breeder, however he doesn't seem very fond of his old mix compared to his new mix. Should I complete the change over of old food to new food or just let him have what he likes? He seems to be a huge fan of small seeds, which are plentiful in his new food.

I think that's everything in his update. I'll let you all know how he gets on in his new cage, possibly with cute photos .

Cypher sorry I'm only replying now. I will try him out with a few nuts. He seemed to like the almonds in his food. I need to buy some extra sunflower seeds and I will try flaxseed. He definitely has flax, sunflower, hemp and pumpkin seeds in his main food which is why I want to find something else. Also I think they are quite fatty.

I already tried the biscrok milky biscuits, he has one in his cage which I'm pretty sure he has ignored although I can't find it without disturbing his burrows. I saw some whimzees in my local Pets at Home. Which flavours/colours and sizes are best for dwarfies? I'll buy him some when I get more pocket money.

Thanks

Unsalted Cashew Nuts and Walnuts have gone down well with Harvey. He adores them. The whimzees are great. I tend to go for a smaller size, I don't think there's a difference in the colours. The toothbrush and crocodile are popular with the hams.

Are they biscrok milky biscuits or bonio? Mine have never been fussed with milky biscuits really but like the normal biscrok ones, mostly only the natural colour though so I think I have to find someone with a dog to give the others too lol!
If he has that many good seeds in his food he doesn't need much in the way of treats & you can just hand feed mix as a treat, they're generally quite happy to take that.
It's a bit pot luck with the whimzees tbh, mine have all had different favourites so any of the mini toothbrushes (probably the best shape for a dwarf) would be worth a try.
I did try a crocodile with mine once but it was totally ignored, Zephyr had a hedgehog but after running up to it & biting it's nose she ignored that too! Apart from my current Chinese who only likes greenies all my hams have enjoyed a toothbrush.

Ok thank you.

Larry-Jasper is moving into his big cage in about an hour and a half. I will add photos tomorrow. I don't think it will be a problem as he is quite a chilled hamster in that sense. In other senses, he's totally crazy.
