Ok thanks! Larry-Jasper is very tame, but won't sit still ever, unless he's washing, which is the cutest thing ever!

A nail trim & check up should be quick, simple & stress free with a good vet that understands hams chesca, no need for any anaesthetic or anything like that.

Good luck at the show!

Only had a quick play time with Jas today. He had a couple of sunflower seeds.

I got back from the vet with Larry-Jasper about an hour ago, but I've only just sat down to update this thread.

I saw an excellent vet, who Tufty Fluff hamsters uses (recommendation from Larry-Jasper's breeder). He is very knowledgable. We ended up talking about the piggies a lot too, so I am fully confident in the vet. I will be switching the piggies there as well, since it's only a little bit further but he is clearly an excellent vet.

Larry-Jasper had a full check up because it was his first time. He didn't end up having his nails trimmed because they weren't bad enough and he said hamsters are very difficult to do. The vet also said his grease gland looked slightly infected and to just keep an eye on it. I suspect Larry-Jasper hasn't been washing himself properly.

He didn't seem to stressed about the experience and he was heavily rewarded with sunflower seeds. I will see how Larry-Jasper is tomorrow though.

It's not uncommon for the scent gland to get a bit blocked up Chesca, it's worth checking that regularly just to be sure & just bathing it gently with some damp cotton wool at the first sign if it gets left it can be harder to clean & more likely to get infected.
Glad LJ wasn't too stressed by his first vet trip & I'm sure he enjoyed the sunflower seeds to make up for it!
