Lovely update chesca So glad you enjoyed the trip, I can imagine how happy you were to see all the pets again & I'm sure they've thoroughly enjoyed being spoiled
Hermes sounds adorable, hope you can post some photos of him sometime, would love to see.

That is quite a difficult decision to have to make about LJ's future, I think if he's happy in his current cage & is over a year old now maybe an upgrade to a larger cage wouldn't be so important in comparison to having more out of cage time & spending more time with you.
If access to the vet should you ever need it (hopefully not) is easier from your mums then I think that would be a bonus too.
I'm the last person to comment on toy storage space, my whole house is brim full of ham stuff lol!

So nice to have an update and that you had a wonderful holiday.
I agree with cypher, you trust this vet near your mums should you ever need to go, fingers crossed you don't. Larry-Jasper seems happy enough in his present cage.
Maybe staying at your mum's is the answer.
I tried clearing out some hamster stuff and ended up keeping it all as I recalled happy memories with it.

Hi chesca, good to have an update about all the goings on with the animals.
I tend to agree with cypher and TL. At Larry-Jasper's age, I doubt he will need the upgrade to a larger cage. He would need one at the new house if he was only allowed out to play with you so infrequently. The preference I believe should be for you to have regular contact and care of him as he is getting older. Also the vet is important. As for the toys, could you take a box of those you don't need so often to the new house? You could bring back any when you decide to use them. That could help with storage. I just think you would miss him too much if he was at the new house.

Glad you enjoyed your trip! I'm sure all the pets are happy to have you back.

I didn't know that dogs teethed. How interesting! Though, I imagine, also potentially a bit destructive lol. Sounds as though he is learning fast though.

The Jasper situation is, clearly, your decision. But, if it were me, I would keep him with you in your Mum's house. He is happy in his current set up and I think it's more important that he will get the top quality care that you give him every day, rather than having a bigger cage. If you keep his cage in a room which Hermes is not allowed inside, he will be just as safe as if he were at your Dad's house. Plus, he's your hamster! He's used to you and you would miss each other if you only got to see him at weekends. Just my two cents worth, but as I said it's your decision to make.

Your time away sounds amazing. Nice to see you back again.

Keeeep him at your mums full time!!!!!! You can store stuff at your dads place and it will be like new again when jasper sees it next.

I agree that a bigger cage isnt as important esp at this stagenof life plus you can have more play time with him if he is with you full time.

Puppy sounds like great fun. I love dogs.

I have got a new guinea pig and a trio of roborovskis while you have been away!!!

Glad you enjoyed your trip Chesca It sounds like the pets were as happy to see you as you were to see them.

I agree with everyone else, I think if it was me I'd take him to my Mum's. Of course though the decision is entirely yours. Whatever you decide you will do the best thing for LJ

Hey guys I'm back! I realise I have pretty much ignored the forum over the holidays, so I'm sorry. My friend got me into this new band and I am totally obsessed, and it's a weird sensation for me because I used to hate music and never listen to it, but now I just never want to switch it off. I am very grateful to have Apple Music (courtesy of my Dad), otherwise I would have had a VERY expensive month. Anyway, that has been taking up a lot of time. The other thing I've been focusing on is my Art GCSE Summer Project, which has also taken up a lot of time as I'm really not the best artist and I tend to work very slowly.

I really appreciate everyone's responses and it has really helped me decide. My Dad isn't really keen on the idea on having Jasper at my Mum's, as he really does love living with Jasper (I never knew he cared so much), but I am getting there with convincing him to let Jasper move. Jasper is currently at my Mum's with me because my Dad is on holiday. It's nice to see him regularly, but he often isn't up when I go into the kitchen. I saw him tonight though and we had some playtime for a while. Earlier he had broccoli, which he has eaten all of.

I guess time for more rambly life updates. I had a nice summer holiday on a Greek island; Zante. The weather was beautiful, but very hot and the sea was lovely to go swimming in. It was very deep (maybe 5m or so) but when you put your head under, you can see these little blue fish swimming around in small groups, which was cool. I've been back about a week and a half or so.

The guinea pigs are doing well. Oreo has mysteriously (probably copying Pemba) worked out how to stand up against his cage grids, but I'm impressed as he is 6 years old and more energetic than when he was 2-3 years old. Pemba is being his normal troublesome self.

Now onto the dogs. So we have Hermes and Harvey, the black Labradors, but there's now one more dog! Yep, I now have 3 dogs, 2 piggies and Jasper! My Mum's boyfriend decided about a month ago that he really wanted another dog as he missed his Miniature Schnauzer, who was sadly put to sleep last year, and so he started his search for another dog. He found a breeder about an hour away who had a litter of black and silver Miniature Schnauzers. We went to visit them the same afternoon and chose a little puppy. He was 5 weeks old at the time, so we had to wait 3 weeks to pick him up. We got him last week and he is just the cutest thing ever. He's been named Hugo, and it really suits him. He's absolutely tiny compared to Hermes, who has gotten quite big! I get to dog sit him Saturday and Sunday evening, so I will need to do a bit of training with him. I have learnt quite a lot about dog training from Hermes' puppy classes, thankfully. It's a bit of a different experience with getting him, compared to Hermes, as we didn't really know the breeder and she wasn't the best (they didn't have a good diet at the breeder's and weren't toilet trained or socialised properly), but I'm still happy we got him because now he is going to have a much better life and his better diet has already been sorted.

Anyway that concludes my update.

I'm really jealous that you got a miniature schnauzer puppy - they are so so cute!

Glad to hear that your furry family is thriving

Hope you had a lovely holiday in Greece. The last time I was outside of England was, wow, 5 and a half years ago - and that was somewhere cold. No idea when I last went somewhere nice and warm and beachy.

Maybe you could see what Jasper makes of your favourite songs?

Sounds like you've been having an exciting holiday and another dog now too

It's very sweet to hear how Oreo has found lots of energy and is copying Pemba, they sound like such a cute pair
