I would love to make my own food at some point. The Burgess is fine but it's not got much variety and I do worry about them getting bored with it.

Hope you have a good time at the pet show on Sunday and managet to get some nice bits and pieces for your boys

I think Burgess is still an excellent food but I know what you mean about variety. You could base a mix off Burgess and calculate extras to add variety, but you must know the nutritional information. There is the potential they will get bored with a mix, but if they like the ingredients, then I don't see why they should.

I agree that it is great to have this forum to ramble on about our hamsters and other pets.

Sorry to hear one of the veterinary nurses upset you, you've not had much of a great time volunteering there,
Larry-Jasper sensed you had a bad day, they're very good at cheering us up.
I too love rambling on here, knowing that we're all crazy about our hammies and that support is always there.

Hope you are feeling better now Chesca. I wish I could help in some way, but I am terrible with giving advice! It can be therapeutic to say/write out what is bothering you though and I wouldn’t say you rambled at all, so do not worry about that. Pets are often the best comfort - so it’s good you spent some time with yours. By the way, I love it when they lick flaxseed off your hands! It is so sweet.

Lol thanks FF ! My parents don't think I'm that crazy for loving my pets, because Pemba, Oreo and Jasper have finally proved themselves cute enough .

Don't worry, I will Fluffagrams. This will be my third London Pet Show and to be honest, it's more buying things for the pets than there is showing (but there are dog and cat events and rabbit jumping) however they do have talks about different animals to learn about them. There's normally some people from the SHC as well.


Thank you Thin Lizzy. I really do wish that the veterinary practice was nicer (I have noticed that a lot of the staff leave regularly) but at least I found a better vet for the guinea pigs and Jasper, who actually knows what he's doing. It's his regular adorable self that makes everything better . Totally agree with the support part, I am yet to find a forum for the guinea pigs that understands like HC does.

Thank you AprilPeal . I'm terrible with advice, but a cute hamster picture normally does it . I always find talking (or typing) to someone makes me feel better about the problem. It's sad that a bunch of adults feel the need to upset a 14 year old volunteer, but hey, that's society! There's nothing better than cuddles or play time with pets, but the licking flaxseed bit really is the sweetest thing ever. I must get a video of it at some point.

I've just caught up with this and missed Larry Jasper's birthday! Happy belated birthday to him and he looks happy and adorable in his birthday photos. Ramble on lol. I am always rambling on here I am also sorry the veterinary nurse upset you. Some people. I think, wherever you work, there is always one - who is difficult and goes round upsetting people, especially younger or more junior people usually! Just keep smiling and don't show it has upset you - it disarms them. Having a few good lines to respond can help as well. Agreeing with them disarms them sometimes. When I was nursing, a senior nurse on one ward had it in for me! Everything I did was wrong. Eventually I started agreeing with her and saying yes I could have done that better, you're the expert, can you show me please. Yes I was a creep! But it worked - she was flattered and treated me much better after that and stopped finding fault with me. Also wait for them to make a mistake - they always do. And then they know you've seen them make a mistake and have to be nice to you LOL.

Serendipity you're so right! It's so pleasant to disarm rude people with a couple of good lines, but it's even better when karma strikes back, we say "a cada cerdo le llega su san martín" (each pig has his own St. Martin's) - St Martin is the date were pigs used to be slaughtered here.
