As usual, I am incredibly late in replying lol. One day, I will master the art of replying .

Yes, kiln dried pine is the best thing to use for making shelves or levels.
Serendipity's holiday cage definitely wasn't the Mickey, that was the cage she had before the Barney.
|
Thank you! I don't actually need a playpen anymore as I have found a way to keep the base from the piggies old 100cm travel cage, which is tall enough.

Sooty used to have a metal playpen and for what my sister paid for it, it did the job just fine. I don't even think she tried to climb out of it but as Cypher said, if you prefer the wooden one then go with what you prefer.
I've got two of the Pets at Home Large Wire Cages and have really noticed a difference in the quality of the build compared to Jessie's Hamster Heaven. I've still got Victoria in one and although she's happy in it, I find that the cage top has to be aligned in just the right position or else they just don't attach properly.
Are you looking for a wire cage?
|
Lol thanks. Bit early for birthday wishes, but better early than never . Thankfully, I don't need to purchase another playpen now as I have found a way to use the old plastic tray from a cage. I have a friend who has the Hamster Heaven and it is such good quality! No matter what I do, my Pets At Home large wire cage never clips properly. Luckily, Larry-Jasper isn't interested in escaping.

I actually ordered the savic plaza over the weekend for Boris after much indecision (both the Barney's I ordered arrived broken. I think I'm unlucky with cages lol) between the plaza and the ferplast criceti 100. The ferplast one was a bit too wide to fit on the unit so the savic it was. It should arrive tomorrow so I'm looking forward to seeing what Boris thinks about it
|
Thanks for the tip ! Lucky Boris! I would (almost) kill for a Plaza. It's a really beautiful cage.

Re: Larry-Jasper's thread
Don't really have any updates on Jasper, other than he's thriving and being a cute little sweetheart, as always. I watched him eat some sunflower seeds through FaceTime, this morning, which was nice.
As his birthday steadily approaches, I have less and less time to decide what to buy him. I would love to be able to order from Rodipet, but I would only be able to order one or two things, which isn't really worth the money, when there's other things I want from Zooplus.
So far on my list:
Nibble Grass
Sputnik
Leif House
Tigeria Sticklettis Cat Sticks (Chicken)
Dokas Chicken with Rice Snack
8 inch Trixie Wheel (would get a Silent Runner but too expensive and won't fit in the cage)
Pea Flakes (mainly for the guins)
Bendy Bridge Ladder
Any other suggestions?

Re: Larry-Jasper's thread
I've just ordered two more of the Trixie wheels for the Chinese. Matthew has had his for a couple of weeks and he seems to like it so I thought that James and Victoria might like one as well. I know they're not quite as well recommended as the Silent Runners but my hams seem to approve of them.
The other toy that they sell that is popular with my hamsters is this climbing tower but I'm not sure how a Winter White would get on with one: Climbing Frame for Hamsters from Natural Wood | Top deals on small pet accessories at zooplus

Re: Larry-Jasper's thread
Looks like a good list chesca, it's a shame that ordering from Rodipet is so expensive before you even actually buy anything but you can still get some great presents for LJ
I would skip the dokas chicken, both myself & Fluffagrams have had problems with it going mouldy, stick to the Tigeria chicken & maybe try the duck too, it is higher in fat but my hams love it!
Nibble ears are good too, it's out of stock right now but may be back in by the time you do your order if you fancy giving that a go.
The JR farms millet set is a bit pricey but another treat worth a try, there really is a lot there & it would last LJ ages, they look great in the cage too, just a little bit of one or two at a time.
My Russians have used that climbing frame Fluffagrams linked to & could use it with no problems, the bells really seemed to annoy them though so I took them off!
It's hard to know what else to suggest for the ham that (probably) has everything

Re: Larry-Jasper's thread
I have bought several things from zooplus but they were all for my syrian and I don't know if a russian would enjoy them. The millet set that cypher suggested looks awesome, It was in my wishlist but as she pointed out is a little bit pricey (and that's the only reason why it is not in my home already)

Good to know that Matthew approves . I'm buying the Trixie because Jasper has never really got the hang of stopping in his Comfort Wheel. The tower looks old - I would take the bells off though. It might be a bit big to be in a full-time cage, but would be great for play pen time.

Ok thanks for the tip with the Dokas chicken - saved myself a few pounds. The treats do look good, but I find £7 a little excessive. I'll give it a few days and see if the other treats come into stock. I would take the bells off too because I imagine it would freak Larry-Jasper out a little bit. He certainly does have everything ! He's my pampered little prince.

Re: Larry-Jasper's thread
If you buy more food from Mixerama at some point you can gets individual sprays of things like millet, flax, amaranth etc which works out a lot cheaper than the zooplus ones but obviously only worth it if you're ordering anyway.

Re: Larry-Jasper's thread
I agree with cypher about the Dokas chicken treats going mouldy - that was what went mouldy that time I threw out all of Sweep's treats!

Re: Larry-Jasper's thread
Cypher I am planning on ordering from Mixerama in the next month or two, so I guess I will order the millet and things like that then.
Poor Sweep losing all his treats! Even the walnuts?
