Exclamation S.O.S I really need help!

My hamster was fine until yesterday and the fur around her eye got a little wet and first I thought it was something from her water bottle and perhaps when she drinker she got a little bit of her fur wet but today it started getting red and there was a white blub of thing next to her eye and her left eye has gone all watery. Help! Help! Help,

What kind of substrate are you using? Wood shavings can sometimes be irritating & that might cause it or it could be some kind of infection.
Might well be worth a vet check to be sure.

First of all what substrate do you use? Is it dusty could this be an allergic reaction? Is there anything in her cage that could have got stuck in her eye? If you pinpoint the problem to be any of these it will need changed ASAP but if you are worried at all take her to the vet. I think it sounds like an allergy to the bedding being used or something in the cage but I could be completely wrong. Maybe someone else has had this problem before and may be of more help

This sounds like some substrate in the eye. I had this with wood shaving with Screech. She had some in her eye but it could not be seen until I pulled her lower eyelid down and saw it. She just had trouble opening her eye.

Ian, a how to or video on how to pull a hamster eyelid down would be invaluable!!! I'd like to know how in such an event as this one.....please advise!

I'm picturing something from the description that sounds more like a boil or sty? I think I'd be scheduling a vet appt.....unless it is something like Ian said, where they need to be able to get something out of their eye....

Keep us posted.

Hi! Good news, it was probably not the substrate. I think I have not mentioned this before, but yesterday she actually lost fur around her eyes and now it's all grown back.. I think Ian is right about the not so able to open the eye part, but it's probably dust when I took her out on the ground and the sofa to play yesterday...
I think she's managed to get what ever was stuck in her out by herself which was pretty amazing to me because she stopped scratching and I think I would like the video too. I'm currently using really tiny paper pellets as litter but I'm changing to carefresh this week to be extra sure.

I'm still a bit worried though....
It seems to me that the corner around her eyes are still a little red she still can't really open up her left eye.
Ian, if you can post more about what happened next with screech, that will be wondeful.
