Default Meet little Yuki

Meet little Yuki. I couldn't stay without a little friend for to long so I took this little girl with me home. At the pet shop they told me that she was there around 2 or 3 months plus the time she spent before she got there. So I'm guessing she's around 3 or 4 months old.

I gave her the name Yuki because in Japanese one of its meanings is snow. I know it's similar to Suki, but her name is also to honor another sweet deceased hamster.

We have a lot of getting to know each other to do. I held her the first day I got her and she didn't bit. She isn't as frightened, but she prefers staying in the house. She does bite when I'm not careful, but that's because I was used to Suki's no biting personality.
An interesting story is, when I first put her in the cage, the first thing she did was went straight to the hamsterwheel and started running. She was so happy she could do that because that pet shop is terrible when it comes to offering hamsters exercising abilities (just a plastic container with woodshed, food and water).
There was another white hamster with her (a male I think), but I don't think he liked me so that's why Yuki went with me. The other hamster really liked my boyfriend, but unfortunately he couldn't take him with him cause he is really way to busy and wouldn't have enough time for the little hammie. I hope someone responsible takes him. Honestly I would love to have him also with me, but that would mean many little hamsters and as much as it sounds so sweet, I don't really want that now.

I hope Yuki lives long and I hope she'll come to realize I am her friend.

Yuki is stunning! With any luck she will stop biting once you have established a bond! x

Yuki is very beautiful! the first picture is amazing! she seems very friendly, if you could catch her the first day she arrived I'm sure she'll come to realize you're her friend, even her mother

OMG! She's beautiful! That first photo is a show stopper. I'm glad you got another hammy. Suki is probably smiling down on Yuki from the bridge.

Congrats! She is absolutely lovely and i hope she will have a long and happy life by your side. I'm so happy for you and for her! An yes, they are really bad with providing hamsters the exercise they need at pet shops, aren't they...must have been a great joy for her to encounter her first wheel!

Yuki is just gorgeous! I'm sure she'll become more comfortable in time and you two can become the best and closest of friends!

Yuki sometimes tends to sleep with her eyes half opened. I don't think my previous hamsters ever did this. Is that normal, should I be worried?

She's tends to freeze a lot. Yesterday she had a moment where she froze on my bed and just stared at me. I gave her one sunflower seed and she immediately put it in her cheek, but continued to stand still. So I kept giving her seeds and when I wouldn't give her one for 15 secs she'd make a step towards me and then stop. In the end those steps she took led her in my hand and she continued to be frozen there... After I put her in the cage she was still frozen for some time and then went back to normal...
And yesterday I called her and she randomly just fell (laid) on her back with all paws up and looked at me for 15 secs without moving (she wasn't aggressive). That lying on her back was more of an accident because she stood up on her little feet to see better and then lost balance and ended up on her back. She was there like that because she was between her cage wall and her food bowl and didn't care to move
She is biting less than she did before so that's good.

Poor little thing still isn't sure of herself. I don't think her half open eyes are a problem. Lots of animals do it, so I'd guess some hamsters do too. Unless she shows any irritation or fussing at her eyes, it should be fine.
