She stop up on her hind legs when I was trying to take a pic and fell over backwards and because she's so fat had trouble getting up. I feel bad for giggling at her but i have to admit I did.

This is her:

Photobucket has decided it's not going to let me post the other, better pics though.

I'll stick to the HH then.

Ooh does she need a sand bath? I know some types of hamster do.

i have to admit to being rather clueless, it's been a while since I had any type of hamster and I've forgotten a lot.

She looks very sweet but in all honesty she shouldn't be struggling to get up like that. He eyes appear bulgy as the lump appears to be pulling the skin around them back. Is she more bulgy on one side at all?
If it is a lump, at this stage I don't think the vet would be able to do anything for her and if she seems happy enough then I'd let her be. She is going to need watched though as if she gets stuck on her back she could get very panicked and stressed. It may be an idea to have a shallow bowl instead of a bottle or to make the bottle very low so she does not have to stand up to drink.
I would worry she might get stuck in a sand bath so you should only give it while you can watch her but I think it would help her coat yes. I would say she is a hybrid. That is not a WW colour and I doubt she is in winter coat already.
I do hope she is OK. She is lovely - such a pretty face and such a shame she was given up at such an age - I don't understand some people who could do that but she is safe and home now x

She was checked over at the store and the vet didn't mention anything wrong with her, although I admit I don't have much faith in the vets at P@H stores, they are very expensive and seem to mostly have vet nurses seeing animals for routine things.

I've had a gentle feel of her all over (her fur is incredibly soft, and she's so sweet natured despite being scare) and I can't feel anything suspicious either, she does feel flabby but there's nothing that feels lumpy, she feels like a regular hamster with lots of padding. She's nice and symetrical as well, no lop sided bulginess. Her eyes only bulge like that when she's sat in that position, she looks normal when she's running, or more waddling along.

I've adjusted the water bottle and will make sure she only has a sand bath when I'm there.

If it does turn out to be something more sinister than just fatness she'll get the best love and care for as long as she's with us but I'm hoping she does just need to lose weight. If that is the case i doubt we'll have a problem cos she seems to love her wheel.

She is beautiful such a tiny looking wee soul! I hope it's just the weight too. Fingers crossed it starts to come off and she can do all her hamstery things!

She sat quite calmly in my hand for a while this evening, she's very sweet She did try and have a nibble on my finger but I think she was just checking I wasn't made of food! She is looking happier and healthier already now she has more space.

This is one of my favourite rescue stories I know she wasn't abused at p@h but she was inadequately housed and not taken care of properly for months and months. That's like half lifetime for dogs or humans as hamsters have shorter lifespan.
Hope she will have happy life with you. Well done!!

I don't know what her home before P@H was like but since they handed her in without so much as a name then probably not great. I'm not going to force handling on her but will make sure I can handle her enough to check for any potential problems. Other than that she can get on with hamstering along on her own terms in a nice big cage with plenty to do. The wetness underneath has gone now as well, she seems to be keeping herself clean.
