problem with my winter white?
Hi...
I'm used to Syrians, but I have my first Winter White.
He seems to be his normal self, high energy, eating/drinking seems normal.
My question... there seems to be a growth, mid-abdomen. It's covered with fur... He's too small and fidgety for me to get a good look at it..
I hesitate to ask the question, for fear of sounding stupid... again, I'm used to Syrians...
is it possible his testes are just more central on his body than with other breeds?
Thanks.

Re: problem with my winter white?
It sounds like the ventral scent gland. WW have a scent gland in the 'tummy button' position. It is more obvious in males and as they mature can get quite yellow stained. Just watch it does not get very red or ooze stuff a lot as that may indicate an infection. Some staining is pretty normal though. The testicles are in the normal position at the back

Re: problem with my winter white?
thanks for the insight…
The vet told me he had unconnected tumors in his belly area,- something I'd never experienced with many other hamsters in my life-
that weren't causing him any pain, but keep an eye on his quality of life.
And just about when it appeared time to make an uncomfortable decision with him (due to balance, etc), he passed away.
But again,
thanks for the insight.
And I look forward to getting my new one.
