Default Instant hamster

Do WWs ever sleep? Our previous WW Snowy was quite laid back (and very fat when we got her), but our current Cookie is very different. If we even tap on her cage she comes out instantly and expects out. She never seems to sleep. Are they all like this?

I think they are generally quite laid back hamsters, and sometimes love cuddles and human contact. My Todd is a soppy little toad. At night he's a nutter on the wheel, but he's generally quite a placid little boy, though very inquisitive. He loves to be cuddled.

What cage do you have? It looks almost like some kind of pink Ovo.

The cage is an Ovo Habitrail something with dwarf in the name - it came with the ham and not had time to upgrade yet. I would ideally like something bigger but for now she gets tons of exercise and handling time.

I see. I thought that's what it looked like.
Yeah personally I would say that even for a dwarf that is a tiny cage, but if you are planning to upgrade her then that's great. She might be a little restless in the small cage. She sounds like quite an energetic hamster so I would get her something nice and big when you can.

I know when I've had to put hams in smaller cage on short term basis they have been very restless and energetic, always rushing about and dying to come out and play.
Does she have a good wheel in there?

I know my WWs are awake at times during the day as well as the night and often come to the bars for a treat or attention if they wake and hear me around.

I think it all depends upon the personality of the hamster in question, one of my WW is very lazy but another is hyper! Most are somewhere in between.

Dwarfs, as opposed to Syrians I believe, nap more rather than long sleeps. Both my russians will pop their heads out very quickly if I go into the room they are in, no matter what time and I am fairly quiet! Sometimes they will be still slightly sleepy and try and take a finger back into house (they both do that) if I put my hand near. They will often be then awake for half an hour or so before nodding off again, almost wherever they are!

dwarfessy, slatted - yes that's exactly Cookie, and I forgot the nodding off bit too, if Cookie is in her playbox she often takes a nap. Munchalot the wheel in the Ovo is plenty big enough and has an edge so she cannot fly out, and there is a flying saucer in her playbox. Personally though the Ovo seems a neat idea (the box suggests it mimicks an underground nest - hmmm) she only has it because that's how she was when we adopted her. It's too much kids toy and too less ham cage IMO. I am working on housing, probably a bin cage (same for our Chocolate [syrian] ham too but at least she has a decent size hamtank). The water bottle in the Ovo is hopeless, it always drips.
