Will I seperate them now??
Hey everyone! So it's 22 days since Chii's babies were born. Is it time I put the boys in their own cage now?? I'm ordering a third cage so I can have pairs in each just to be careful. Chii seems to be sleeping by herself now and the babies are sleeping together. I haven't seen them suckle from her in days. What do you think?? Thanks xxx

Re: Will I seperate them now??
I'd leave them until 28 days if you can, but I doubt moving now will do much harm if you can't wait longer.

Re: Will I seperate them now??
I would go with the 28 days as well because babies learn more the longer they are with their mum and siblings. Removing them prematurely is making their minds up for them and without knowing it, you could be removing them a tad too early. I would always go with the proper duration and give them that extra time that they need. Four weeks is the general rule, but some say five weeks to make sure the babies are fully aware of how to feed and drink by themselves and have matured enough to do better when suddenly their lives are changed. x

Re: Will I seperate them now??
Would I be risking too much to wait for five weeks? I don't want the girls to get pregnant by the one boy. That's the only thing I'm worried about...

Re: Will I seperate them now??
I`m no breeder so I can`t advise. Four weeks is the minimum, but whether baby males are actually sexually mature and able to get a female pregnant at five weeks is the question that needs answering here. I would say it`s unlikely, but breeding animals are usually paired up at an older age, or a male and a female are left to be a breeding pair or in a harem situation in a group. So you would need this answered by someone who is a long standing breeder who may have had incidents at this age and can advise you. Otherwise, I would think five weeks is still safe.

Re: Will I seperate them now??
I think after four weeks (28 days) there is a slim risk to be honest

Re: Will I seperate them now??
If your worried about the one boy getting any of the females pregnant maybe take him out at 4 weeks and put him with the dad and keep the females with the mum? That's if you have the dad? otherwise I would say 4 weeks separate the one boy the girls can always stay with mum a bit longer

Re: Will I seperate them now??
I bought her from my local pet store. A week after I had her she had her babies. The usual story you would here I can tell that one is a boy for sure and one is a girl but I'm not sure about the other two. I'm sure I'll know I'm a week or two. I'll keep them with Chii for longer, thanks everyone xxx
