Boys or girls living together
I'm thinking about getting two winter whites.
Do girls or boys live better together? Just interested in knowing how they get on together.

I would say boys get on better than girls. but its a chance to take putting them together as they might fall out and you need to be prepared with the other cage.

Re: Boys or girls living together
You best bet is a pair of siblings. There are no guarantees however they will stay together and you need to be prepared with a cage etc to separate at the slightest sign of fights or bullying. I wouldn't say there was much difference in the success rate between the genders. Peak time for fall outs especially in males is when they reach maturity and the hormones really kick in at about 4-7 months so they may seem fine at first then it all goes haywire

Re: Boys or girls living together
Thank you. Is there anything else I should watch out for. I've only ever had Syrians. My boyfriend would like a pair of winter whites, so they can live together.

pedigree winter whites are very hard to get a hold of in the UK, You will need to get them from a breeder with pedigree papers to make sure you have got winter whites and not hybrids

Re: Boys or girls living together
Try and get them from a breeder. Hybrids can have 'confused' characteristics and the temperaments of even sibling hybrids can be very different making them even less likely to get on.
Remember though that keeping a single sex pair together as mature adults is not a natural situation. Groups in the wild are mixed sex and age and they would not choose to live with a same sex partner which is why the pet ones often fall out!
In my experience more than half, probably more need split up. It is also quite stressful wondering if you are going to come home to a fight when they are getting a bit techy with each other!
You need a good sized cage and two of everything as well as plenty time you are about to monitor them.
