What do you mean by that?
I think Slatted is saying that any reputable pet store or breeder should not have sold you two hamsters without ensuring that you are well aware of the care they need.

Certainly nobody should be selling two syrians or two hamsters of different breeds or a male and female of the same breed, without making it VERY clear that they need to be kept in separate cages.

Thanks _nod....that is what I meant...the situation should not have occurred that you purchased two hamsters with no idea of what "type" or how to house and look after them.

Oh...The shopkeeper who sell the hamsters to me said, " You should buy two, it is ok to have two in one cage." I was only going to buy one but then my dad is like, "ok." Now my mom said that we should give one of the hamster to one of my friends. Now I have this problem from choosing Bob or Lizzy...

shiru14, I understand that this is a very tough decision for you and It's one you shouldn't have been asked to make. Sometimes as pet owners we have to make hard decisions, but in the end we must do what is right for our hamsters.

Try not to take it too hard, many people are given bad advice by pet stores and you absolutely did the right thing by coming here and asking for help with your new hamsters. Had you not, they would have ended up fighting an could have been seriously hurt, so you should be very proud of yourself for preventing that.

So basiclly as people said Syrian hamster is easier to take care of and maybe it is more suitable for you as first time pet owner. I have Syrian girl and she is absolutely adorable. So i can vouch for syrian hamster is being cute However you need bigger cage and bigger wheels etc in order to look after the Syrian hamster.
Yes I do agree with others saying store you shopped is not good one I'm sure they will give you bad advice if you go back shopping there again as already I did give you very bad advice !
Good luck with your new hammy and hope to see more pictures soon

If your friend is willing to have one of the hamsters and would like a pet with their families agreement and also has a cage that would be suitable then that would be a good solution because then you could see both hamsters when you visit with each other and you could follow their progress

There are two species which can interbreed - the Campbells and the Winter White and this is because they are very similar in their genetics but the others cannot. They should not be interbred though because it can cause sickly hamsters to be born.
The two types you have will not breed.

Go with what your heart feels is right. Though all hamsters are lovely sometimes one will have a closer bond to you or you will just like something about that hamster that makes it a little bit extra special. It is always a good idea to have a good chat with your family before getting new pets to make sure that everyone agrees on what best fits in with your life style and finances.
I hope you can decide a good way forward for everyone.

Wow...Ok then I actually just made a decision with my family that I am going to keep Bob because Syrian hamster is easier to take care. I also think that I get along with Bob easier. I also have one question: Do hamsters usually sleeps? When I go check on them, most of the time they sleep together. They usually wake up because of me but do they like to sleep often? ALso to reply Knotty, I live actually in Shenzhen China, near Hong Kong.

So is Lizzy going to your friend or back to the shop shiru?
I am glad you have made a decision on which hammy you get on best with and that lizzy can now get a nice new home.
Hamsters do sleep most of the day yes and that is normal. They are up at dawn and twilight mostly and during the darkness of the night. You can train them to come out when you call them so you can handle them. You should read up lots more on hamsters so you can find out all about their behaviour and habits so you know what to expect.
