Winter White female?
Hi all,
To cut a long story short, I have recused this, what I believe to be?, Winter White from a pet shop.
I am unsure of her sex? Age? The shop stated approximately 6 weeks and a male..I believe she was a female in a group of males!? I have included some pic's to ask for help in confirming sex and species please.
Will he/she be ok to grow up alone?
Above all she/he is incredibly cute.
I look forward to hearing from you......many thanks in advance

Re: Winter White female?
I can't really tell the sex, but it is most likely your hamster is hybrid if you got it from pet store. By the shape of it's behind I would say it's a girl, but if it is only 6 weeks old, I would wait a bit longer to see if it will grow testicles or nipples (they tend to become more noticable a bit later, around 2-3 months in case of my hamsters).
Living alone is nothing to care about. Hamsters do great either in pairs/gropus and alone.

Re: Winter White female?
Hi Sam, hammie is beautiful. In the first image, I thought I noticed little dots/nipples on `her` belly, but don`t take my word for it! She`s still young, so if there are any testicles, they could show later on, but someone who knows better with this species might be able to advise you better.
I also agree that she`s likely to be a hybrid as she`s came from a pet shop situation, so unless the shop can provide you with their breeders details and whether they are a registered winter white breeder, I would treat him/her as a hybrid and use a low/no sigar diet.

Re: Winter White female?
Congratulations on your gorgeous new hamster. It certainly has plenty of Pearl WW genes looking like that even if it is a hybrid.
The 1st photo looks female but the last one was less clear. If it turns out to be a female do watch for pregnancy if she has been in with males. She is not too young to get pregnant at such a young age. Gestation is 18 days so you will know after this time that you are in the clear!
On such a young hamster if it is a she and she is pregnant you may see bulging develop on her sides more easily than with a pregnant adult. Look for the signs and if in doubt treat as if she is pregnant eg quiet, extra bedding and food. Come back for more advice if you need it but let's hope it's a boy and isn't therefore pregnant!
He/she will be perfectly fine living alone. Many dwarfs live as singles and lead very happy lives without other hamster company.
Best wishes and I look forward to hearing more about your new addition.

Re: Winter White female?
Hi everyone
Thank you so much for your replies
Little Nemo, as she is now called (2 year daughters choice) is wonderful. She is a little nippy but I'm hoping she will grow out if this
I guess I will have to wait approximately 18 days to see if any babies arrive. I am keeping everything crossed in hope this will not be the case!
Thank you all again so much for your replies.
