Change of fur colour?!

Hi guys,

My hamster Whitey has recently started to change colour. He used to be completely white, but now he has started to become grey (as can be seen in the attached images)

So, I have heard that this could be due to scar tissue, some sort of problem with the pigment. Which I think may be a valid reason as the colour change did start around the area where he was damaged [hes fine now though]

Although, I have also read that fur colour change in winter white dwarf hamsters is perfectly normal and can occur depending on season or age. Does this mean it will happen with all winter whites?

Can anybody please clarify?? Any ideas??

It looks as if he has a lot of Winter white in him and is now changing back in to summer coat! They do sometimes go into winter coat or partly so then when they move home or the light levels or temperature increased they will shift back again. Depending on his genes he may fully change or only partly and swing back and forward. You just have to wait and see!

He is most likely to change from winter fur to his Sapphire colour. This happens due the temperature and light level change. It never happend to my hamsters (only FiFi who is in fact a pudding). It deppends.

Glad Whitey is doing well. He's lovely. His fur is changing colour quite a bit isn't it, back to his summer coat.

You won't change his name though, will you?!

Nah! My creativity in names is severely lacking. My brown winter white is called Brownie, and as you know my white winter white is called Whitey. If he turns grey, Greyie just doesn't sound right lol.
