Aww poor little guy. Fucithalmic is great (at least on humans)
I do hope it works on your ham too and that he has a speedy recovery. <3

Awwwww that picture Yeah just give him some good protein foods like scrambled egg and non-seasoned cooked chicken ect.

And get some salt and water mix it together and slightly dab with a cotton bud or something like that and that should clean out the wound a bit better.

I hope they get better soon!!!

Hi guys.

I thought it has been a while since I updated you all. Thanks for your concern, it is very much appreciated.

So, just to remind you, on 20/12 both hamsters had a fight, brownie came out unscratched, whitey bled and had a really bad left eye. On 24/12 I took whitey to the vet as he didnt seem to be making as much progress as I would of liked.

The vet said he got bit on his eyelids and this led to an infection/ulcer on his eye. She said he cant see through his left eye at the moment, but he might get it back. So she cut off the excess tissue off his eyelids and prescribed him with Fucithalmic eye drops. I have been putting this in his eye every night since then, so that is about 2 weeks worth of medication.

So, I have posted a picture of Whitey (taken just now) to show you how he has been progressing. The vet said I should bring him back for a check up, but I just wanted to make sure it was required because it is a bit expensive to go every time as they charge a fair amount just for the consultation. Although, I will take him back if needed, I just wanted to be sure. What do you guys think?

Oh yeah, something else happened. Whilst Brownie was in his temporary cage, he decided to chew out the top :O So yeah, for a number of hours he went missing, to which I established nests around the whole of upstairs (as I keep him upstairs) but I put food all over the place in my bedroom (as I keep him in here), so after a few hours, he showed up, thank God!

So I was forced to upgrade Brownies temporary cage to the one shown in the picture. It is about 2ftx1ftx1ft, he is really enjoying his new cage, he runs around ALOT! I would definitely advise everyone to never to allow it to get to that stage, because it was possible I could have lost him, but thankfully I did not. A lesson to be learnt from!

He`s looking so much better. It will be a case of looking closely at his eyes and decising for yourself if they are totally healed, or if there is still any redness or leakage going on. I would monitor things and keep a close eye on him to be honest. It`s great that he`s now in a secure cage too and should be allowed to settle. He sounds very active and that`s a good sign. What do you feed him on? Does he get any millet (loose) and pieces of millet spray? Dwarfies love millet.

Always make sure his water bottle is secure and working. If in doubt, change it. The bottle inside your cage looks rather `tilted`? The Classic bottles are the best I find.

Thanks for updating omz, it`s really good to see things are looking better for him.

Edited: Does he have a wheel?

Yeah I suppose I am going to have to keep monitoring him.

I feed him just on a standard mix, its got flakes, nuts, seeds, pellets and some stuff that looks like wood. Every few days I give them a bit of apple (they love it). I may have to look out for millet next time at the pet store.

Yeah, on this new cage, the bottle came with suction cups, thus leading it to be tilted. However, I just had to prop something behind it and now its perfectly straight.

He does have a wheel, not sure if it is that clear in the pic I uploaded, its like an opaque yellow.

Perhaps you could let your vet know that it is sometimes difficult to pay for vet visits? My vet, who is wonderful, wanted Cheeto to come back for a follow-up after her surgery but she did not charge me at all since it was a follow-up that was requested by her. Worth looking into maybe? Good luck to Whitey. xx

Thanks for the idea, I'll try that.

I think I have just made an interesting observation. On whiteys head/face (the region where he was damaged) has almost turned completely grey.

Is it normal for hamsters color to change? Or is this something that occurs when they lose fur and it grows back? Or is this something I should be worried about...
