Thought I'd have a little update!

Pip is just under 7 months now. (Not sure of her exact B-day cause she's a rescue) She's still such a little sweetie. Don't think she could ever hurt anyone. The only thing she ever bites are my clothes! lol
She's my first ever dwarf and I've now just fallen in love with them! Might be brave and get a pair next time I get some dwarfs. (I didn't get a pair last time because I was scared they might fight and I was still fairly unexperienced and new to Hammies).

Her fingernails are quite long again. I've taken her to the vet before to get them cut but they've just grown back!
Is this normal in WW? Can I do anything about it?

Hope to put some more pics up soon. xxx

There is nothing that will stop nails growing. I’ve asked around and tried many things over the years including sand bath and ceramic pot in cage.
Some WWs have nails which grow long and others don’t.

You will need to keep them trimmed and learning to do it yourself is the cheapest option. Otherwise you will regularly have to pay a vet to do it.

I can share my experiences of cutting WWs’ nails if you decide to do it yourself. You need to have a sharp eye and a steady hand to make sure you only cut nail and don’t cut any skin.

Thanks for your help.
I do have a sand bath for her but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have seen the vet do it before so a have a rough idea if I decided to do it myself.
I'd be quite scared though! Wouldn't want to cut them to short or accidently cut her fingers or something. :/
I'll see if I can pluck up the courage to cut them myself!

Would I need special scissors or are normal nails scissors fine? Thanks x

I use normal human nail scissors which have fine blades. I am fortunate to have someone to hold the WW for me to keep it from wriggling so that both my hands are free, one hand to hold the paw steady and one hand to use the scissors. I always place the scissor blades over the nail and make sure that there is only nail between the blades and no skin before applying pressure to actually cut. That way I never have any accidents.

Thanks. I'll get some help if I do it. x
