Default WW can't get to grips with his wheel

My new rescue WW can't seem to get to grips with his wheel.

He continually tries to run perpendicular to the axle rather than round in it.

We've tried all sorts but he just doesn't seem to grasp which way he is supposed to be facing to make it work.

Has anyone else had this problem, or have any suggestions

Cheers

Does it definitely move freely on the axle? Winter whites aren't very strong and he might have tried it while you weren't looking and struggled.

My ww's don't really like the wheels that came with their cages - I don't think they are easy enough for them to turn so I've bought them silent spinners for their birthday - hopefully they'll like them more.

I tried it and it seemed to be going round okay, I was thinking about a silent spinner as it has a sort of lip doesn't it which means he won't be able to stand on the outside and push it round with his front paws as he is trying to do at the moment.

Have been round all the petshops in my area but can't find a silent spinner suitable for dwarfs so may have to order on line.

On the up side OH has spent quite a lot of time patiently with his hand in the cage been bitten and now Mishka will come out and feed from his hand and sit on the palm of his hand for about 30 seconds

Well done your OH - he sounds like my Will - very handy to have a round when taming new hams!

Mishka is in the Savic Roddy at the moment, would he be better with a 6" or a 4.5" silent spinner?

They have them on ebay for about £7.00

Can't wait for Algy's Savic Cambridge - he is the smelliest little hamster I know, he keeps peeing in his tubes which then drips out the holes - we have paper towel underneath at the moment!

Hurry up posty!!!

I had the regular spinners (6") for my chinese, they were great, done exactly as it said on the tin. Although sweet kept throwing herself out of it by running too fast

I also got the 6" for our winter whites and for Bean's new cage - maybe I should have gone for the smaller one for Bean but I think the 6" is great for winter whites.

We have the 4.5 for our WW Ice, though she would manage fine with the larger one too I think. She is really tiny, even for a dwarf though, so a larger one may be better with the larger SS. Our Winter White is more of a Wimpy White

I was in the petshop today (checking out Gabber Rex cages for you Teresa - will PM you) and I saw a 4.5" silent spinner - it's so dinky and cute I got it for Bean. I think it would be a bit small for our ww's - who aren't tiny - but it looked so perfect for Bean, I couldn't resist
