Re: My first Foster Hamster
I got ghost and Athena from a small rescue that had started up not long before and they had a form to sign. They also had an information booklet too as well as an information sheet for that specific hamster. The more established rescue I got Lilith from did the same, I'll see if I can find it and attach it to this

Re: My first Foster Hamster
Thanks everyone for your replies, I will keep the adoption form then and Engel that is a great idea an info sheet for each hamster species. That might take me a while to do .
In future I will stick to Syrians, as I have 2 spare savic plazas, but I just had to help this Robo in this
specific situation.
I am going to set up an alert for some duna multy/zoo zone cages though. In case of the very off chance one comes up 2nd hand. I could do with one of those for the smaller hamsters, It's just luck my Marrakesh was still empty that I could take Suki in.

Re: My first Foster Hamster
A good allrounder, temporary cage is the Grosvenor. I've recently bought a good as new one for £25 off Gumtree. It's perfect for Rodney, an initially terrified and still very nervous young Syrian. The top opening door opens and closes very quietly. The noisy HH front opening door would have freaked him out. I took the large shelf out last night because i wasn't able to spot clean his pee corner without lifting the wire top off and replaced it with a corner shelf. Apparently, the Grosvenor folds down for easy storage when not in use.
As to adoption forms: no, i don't have those and never really thought about it to be honest. I have only rehomed two hamsters myself sofar but have talked to the potential adoptive ladies at great length before agreeing, at which point a written agreement wouldn't have made any difference.

Re: My first Foster Hamster
Another thought. It may be worth while looking in the small ads nationwide for a cage because shop to shop delivery with dpd is surprisingly reasonable. I've sold and transported goods that way with paypal as the paymentt method.
I'm just waiting for reply to a Zoozone 2 advertised for £10 so the cages are available.

Re: My first Foster Hamster
I think the reason I wanted to do an adoption form is that it makes it look more official and hopefully make people think about what they are taking on and if for any reason they can't keep the hamster anymore I want them to surrender it back to me.
I think i saw that zoozone, was it in Bristol? I seriously considered asking my friend to go get it and post it to me
I've done advert alerts so who knows one day maybe that will pay off.
I've got 2 unused bar cages so I don't really need another one of them.
Just thought if i could get a zoozone or duna to use in the future that would be good for robos/dwarfs without me worrying about bar width or height of cage and a safe set up.

Re: My first Foster Hamster
Luna, the bar spacing of a large zoozone is 2cm.
I've just stopped at Jolleys on my way home from work and measured one.
Yes, its the one in Bristol i enquired about but had no reply.

Re: My first Foster Hamster
Thanks so much Ria. So definitely needs meshing
My friend is going to a local independent pet shop today. I said that I would be very surprised if they have an appropriate hamster cage but they may find a guinea pig/rabbit one that can be adapted.

Re: My first Foster Hamster
Well Suki found her whimzee.

Suki Whimzee 1.jpg
Things have gone really well with Suki, she has made a huge tunneling system all over her cage, after a few days she started to come out a lot more. She can still be very skittish and run off back to her tunnels but soon pops her little nose back out again.
She has sniffed my arm, taken a mealworm out of my fingers. I have practiced getting her into a jug and she has come out of the jug walking across my hand.
No cage aggression or bites. She is a little cutie.
I do still need to confirm she is a girl, I really should have done that when I first got her but didn't want to stress her out. So hoping to check that out this weekend and try and give her a mini health check, that might be fun!!!!
But she seems fine, eats, drinks, runs a round.
