Question More questions and more doubts

Hi everyone!

So, by now, it’s been a week or so since we’ve had this little robo. Still don’t know his age, but I think he might be a boy, and his name is Kinder, like the chocolate egg that it’s quite famous here in Portugal, with brown chocolate on the outside and white chocolate on the inside.

At first I didn’t had the cage ready, the final one, but he adapted just fine to the first cage, and to the last cage as well, whichever is the final.
I’m doing some toys, and finishing others as you may see, i built a platform, and it’s not finished, but as we tried to see it had a good high without the risk of him hurting, he just ran to it and just stood there platform eating. So we let ir stay, until we buy more popsicles (with the right size) to finish the rest.

We are also recycling toilet paper rolls and he absolutely loves them. I also put a pokeball ( made of plastic but I check every day to see if he starts chewing, and if he does I will take it off) and he just stands there inside and it’s just the cutest thing ever!!!

Also his home it’s temporary, as I said I do need to buy more popsicle with different sizes, and that cardboard box it’s his temporary home for now.

A thing that bothers me it’s that I don’t know where he pees yet (I think he might pee on the wheel but I’m not sure...?), and he’s not fully potty trained but he does some poop on the sand, but one day, I was looking for where he would pee, and saw a bunch of poop on the bottom of the substrate... is that normal?

Also another question. How much food am I supposed to put on the bowl? I’ve been mixing two seed mixes because one as peanuts and sunflowers ( he loves both) and other things, as the other one as those dehydrated worms and lots of small seeds so i though of mixing both, but I’m afraid that it might not be the right to do.

The last question ( sorry for bothering all with such long posts)
The day the substrate arrived we needed to put him on a box, with a little bit of his old substrate and his toys, so that I could just drop the entire 50L on the cage without hurting him and scaring him, and me and my boyfriend where afraid to hold him without any kind of inicial taming, because we where letting him adjust to all of the changes, and we tried to pet him fit to see if he’d run, but he didn’t. Then, I scooped him with my hands, slowly, and he just stayed in my hands. He did try to run after, and I just kept putting one and in front of the other as my boyfriend brings the box towards me and then I just let him stay on the box ( supervised by my boyfriend) until I finished putting the substrate...
To that day forward, we tried to scoop him again gently, but without lifting, and he just stood inside ours hands (I did this and so did my boyfriend). His he slightly tamed possibly?
Or it’s not normal to let us pet him or just not be afraid of us at all?
We are trying to bond with him since then, and now he just let us lift him up to my chest, and play in our hands.
( he did poop a few times, is that a sign of stress?)

Sorry for this long post....

Here are some photos of him and of the cage!

The cage looks nice i would add more hides even if they are cardboard. it is normal cu find poops under the substrate. I can't understand what you said about the mixes but i would stay away from giving too much sunflower seeds.

Thank you. I was trying to say that I bought two mixes and put them together, because one has bigger seeds and the other has small seeds. And I though it wouldn't be a problem if I gave him both, since they're both suitable for dwarf. But my question is that I don't know how much food I should put in the bowl?

To answer your first question, Yes they seem to like pooping at the bottom of their cage. I have a 2.5-year-old dwarf hamster who was impossible to potty train, and she pees and poops all along the bottom layer of her substrate.

And as far as I know, hamsters stop eating when they're full, and they store a lot of food, so even if your hamster clears his bowl every night, he might be storing most of it. Just keep that in mind when you're deciding how much food to give him. As long as his diet is healthy, he shouldn't get overweight.

For the last question, even if your hamster seems tamed at first, once he gets used to his cage and it becomes his territory, you'll need to start the taming process all over again, so give him space for a few days and then start slowly reintroducing yourselves to him. Right now, everything's new and exciting for him (including your hands), and he'll need some time to settle down and find a routine.

Thank you, that was very helpful. We've been starting the taming process with the help of tips and videos on YouTube. Let's hope we can earn his trust!
