Wheel problems with a tiny robo
Hi everyone.
I have a concern about the wheel I bought for my little robo (it still doesn't have a name)
I have him since 2th of this month (July) and we've already put him in the new cage (I will show in another post as soon as I resize the photos) and because the first wheel (28cm) I bought was defective, I contacted the store about it, but I bought another one, with 26cm, because he/she couldn't run in the first one. It wasn't capable of spinning the wheel.
But now, he/she just runs so so fast that he/she keeps going to the top of the wheel and falling to the substrate. That's worrying us, because we're afraid he/she could get hurt.
The first time it happened was funny I even got the chance to film it, because I was making a video to send to my cousin (who gave me the hamster) but has it keeps happening, we're starting to wonder if it's normal or if he/she isn't hurting with the falls....
Any tips or advices? Is it normal? Does it happens because of the size of the wheel? Or just because he/she may not have the strength to stop when needed?
(I don't know the hamster's age, but it seems to be a baby. At least it seems to be quite small...)
Thank you

Re: Wheel problems with a tiny robo
First of all make sure there is nothing hard your robo can fall onto when falling out of the wheel, second does your wheel have an enclosed front with several holes init like a trixie or silent runner wheel, a wheel like that may help.
I think this is a common occurance with robos, others may have more advice.

Re: Wheel problems with a tiny robo
I just saw on your other post that it is a Trixie wheel you have. Maybe someone else has something to suggest that can help, but like I said in my previous post definitely make sure there is nothing hard for your robo to fall o n

Hi, yes it is a Trixie wheel but the one you saw on the post it's the one that's defective. I had to buy another one, from the same brand, but it didn't have the same enclosed front so it's just an open wheel.
Beneath the wheel it's the substrate and that's where he falls into

Re: Wheel problems with a tiny robo
I was worried about this with our Robo too but they soon get the hang of it and don’t fly out! They don’t seem bothered about flying out either. I preferred the open wheel for our Robo because I didn’t want him trying to jump out of the holes while it was spinning and possibly hurting himself trying to do that if he caught the edges of the holes. I don’t know if that would have been an issue or not because I had the open wheel.
Yes just make sure there is only substrate in front of the wheel - he will soon get more experienced at it. I also gave our Robo a 6.5” flying saucer as well as his wheel and he used both. He loved his saucer. He flew off that a few times at first as well but soon got more practiced and it stopped happening.
Robos don’t need a 28cm wheel anyway. Ours had a 21cm wheel.

I bought the 28 cm because I couldn't choose the size. But that one came defective, so I saw a 26cm wheel. I thought that it was quite big, but I was also afraid that later it could became small for him. Now I know robos are the smallest species! (I didn't know that until I got him)
Thank you

Re: Wheel problems with a tiny robo
Ha ha. Yes they are tiny . However they can use bigger wheels as long as they can push them. I saw a YouTube video of a Robo running in a 12” rat wheel. Providing they soon well they can push them. I can recommend getting a 6.5” flying saucer as well as the wheel.
