Red face No sense of smell?>

Is it possible that my robo hamster has no sense of smell?

I have had him about 12 days. Little dude eats seed mix I scatter on the surface or put in his bowl, but won't dig a little into his substrate to uncover, more like eats what he stumbles upon. [also avoids the pellets in the higgins mix.]

I made a few toys with food in them, a folded toilet paper roll full of seed mix, seeds in a hanging willow ball, and he has paid them no mind.
When I covered a chew tip in seed mix he went right for it. When I rubbed sun butter into an identical chew? nothing.

Moving droppings seems to have had no affect on litter training, he goes in the same places unless I move the litter tray, in which case he moves.

However when he got freaked one night he REALLY stunk up his wheel.

I think its highly unlikely for a hamster to have no sense of smell. You've only had him for 12 days so he is still settling in and Robos are so tiny that they eat very little. You could give him some linseeds as a treat. They are tiny seeds and healthy. He may sniff out food below the substrate surface when you are asleep.

I have a Robo and have never even considered trying to toilet train him because he pees so little that it seems to evaporate and in deep substrate its almost impossible to locate his peeing places.

What is sun butter? If its peanut butter its very high in fat and not that good for hamsters anyway so i wouldn't worry about that.

Why did he get freaked? Best to avoid stress because it can affect a hamster's immune system and Robos are very sensitive and shy creatures by nature.
