Default Metallica's Robos

I'm usually known for Chinese Hamsters but for the past two years Metallica Hamstery has also been home to at least one Roborovski. Joshua, my first was Normal Husky and died back in July whilst on a breeding loan and it wasn't until he'd gone that I realised how much I missed having them around so back in September Metallica Hamstery welcomed two new Roborovskis from Vectis Hamstery.

Sisters Hadassah (Ash) and Nechamah (Neshi) were born in May 2019 and originally lived together but got split after Neshi decided that Ash needed putting in her place. They've now settled well into their own cages and are simply a delight to watch.

Both may carry the blue gene so can't be shown although I think they're gorgeous.

Totally agree. They are gorgeous!

Robos have such cute faces with their big eyes, bushy eye brows and huge whiskers.

They’re adorable!

What does the blue gene do?

The blue gene can result in a hamster with a blue colouring which is currently not a recognised mutation by the NHC. It’s a stunning colour and we hope to have it recognised but there’s still work to do to get a true understanding of it.

Here’s a photo from Doric Hamstery with some blues:

What is the process for a new colour being recognised by the NHC? I suppose it has to be shown to breed true?

They're adorable! And thank you for sharing the image of the blues, I have never seen a blue Robo but they are striking!
Nevertheless, your classic sisters Ash and Neshi are so cuuuute! Neshi looks like butter wouldn't melt, while Ash appears to have softer, gentler features, bless!

Doric Hamstery wrote a very good blog post last year about the new Roborovski genes that she's working with which explains some of the things that need to be considered: https://dorichamstery.com/2018/08/14...ck-roborovski/

The Standards Council are the ones who set the Show Standards and determine what is considered to be a recognised mutation as opposed to being a poor example of something else. When the BEW Chinese was first discovered, breeders had to prove that they weren't just a Dominant Spot without markings by breeding three generations to present to the Standards Council. Lilliput Hams managed this and successfully produced an entirely BEW litter out of two BEW parents.
